Reaching Stones Valley
Note: This is a public thread, open to everyone who wishes to use it. What a strange place this is. A large hilly field dotted with flat stones that reach toward the sky, often visited by a pawful of Twolegs who come throughout the day. They smell of grief, and they stand by the stones, sometimes placing flowers or other objects beside them. Even with their intrusion, it is quiet here, peaceful. Birds and rodents are abundant in this valley, though it provides minimal shelter from the elements. Some of the reaching stones offer some protection from rain, providing cats with crevices carved into the stone they can duck into, but that does not prevent the cold breezes that drifts through the valley. Very few of the reaching stones are like dens. Enclosed in stone, cold to the touch, blocked off by weaved sticks harder than any rock they know. For the cats who can find a way into these, they have better protection from the wind and rain. For outsiders, this may not be the best place to make a home, but it provides food and companionship if they seek other cats or to comfort the Twolegs in mourning. |
Re: Reaching Stones Valley
It'd been some time since Lionstorm left Clan territory, and he was itching to do something different. Sure, anyone could stomp around the outskirts and act tough but not many braved the Twolegplace.
This part was unfamiliar to Lionstorm as he sprang up the stone wall that separated a large field from the maze of Thunderpaths. He'd never gone this deep into the Twolegplace, never needed to, but he was bored and curious about what lied beyond Clan eyes. The field in question was sprawling - somewhat rolling hills with oddly shaped stones that reached toward the sky itself. How strange! Boulders didn't usually look like this. Jumping down, he headed into the field with perked ears and bright eyes. Perhaps there'd be something interesting here? He stopped below one of the stones, looking up at the flat facing rock curiously. "What creature would leave claw marks in these?" They weren't like normal claw marks, either. They.. were smooth, they lacked rough edges and seemed to be engraved into the rock. [ open ] |

A tall tom with the fur color of black approached this area. Within, his ears perked as he looked around. These...stones looked rather interesting. Walking over to one, he looked at the flowers that low below it. “Very interesting..” he mused, raising a paw and trailing over it. Looking over his side, he saw a golden colored tom looking at one. “Your curious of what these are aren’t you?” He rumbled, his yellow gaze facing his. Blackstone was rather curious of this other tom. |
Re: Reaching Stones Valley
➵ Illicit ⛓ Illicit perched atop one of the thicker, slightly taller rocks. He gazed around, his eyes extremely sharp and critical, his ears perked up. Perhaps he would settle here, there seemed to be plenty of opportunities. And, to add to that fact, oddly, Twolegs seemed to come here.. and, well, cry. Whatever. What did he care about some sappy people letting out waves of water? He knew the real reason he was here was the reason he wasn't allowed to think about - no, it was.. He knew what it was. Illicit squeezed his eyes shut tight, trying to stop the.. memories and things washing over him. Not that much, to be honest, but he had some! So. |
Re: Reaching Stones Valley
Ruby looked around her, frowning. what a strange little place. there were flat stones she had never seen before, but they seemed to make her housefolk cry. some of them were shaped interestingly; she didn't think nature had made them. she watched as one of her housefolk placed a rock on one of the stones, and cried silently. she wondered what made them so sad to be here.
the wonder was swept away from her as she smelled a scent. Mouse! Ruby crept up on the rodent she could now see, then, when she thought the timing was right, she pounced. there was nothing under her paws. she pouted, annoyed that she hadn't got the mouse. [Open!] |
Re: Reaching Stones Valley
Pit watched as what seemed to be a kittypet tried and failed to catch a mouse. I could help you with that if you want. he mewed, stepping out from behind one of the flat stones. This place was weird, and he didn't like it, but his time here seemed to have paid off. Perhaps this cat was interested in living somewhere other than with smelly twolegs. Hopefully. He kept his gaze warm as he took a few steps towards her. @Ella_heart

Ruby looked around. she hesitated. she hadn't seen this cat before. "O-ok," she answered, "um.. who are you?" she wondered if it was a rude thing to say. |
Re: Reaching Stones Valley
He hadn't intended to be creepy or unnerve the she-cat, but it seemed that was what he had done. I'm Pit. A loner from a ways away doing a bit of exploring. It was rather theatrical and fanciful, but he did like to think of himself as a bit of a wanderer sometimes, even though he was well settled down with Nala and the kits. It sounded nice anyway. His head tilted sideways. He couldn't tell if she was a kittypet or simply lived in the twolegplace, but he wasn't going to pry, at least not yet. And you're name is? he prompted, settling onto his haunches. @Ella_heart

Re: Reaching Stones Valley
@gs29513
"Ruby," she mewed. "you said you could help me with catching a mouse. Do you know how?" she asked. She wondered what a loner was, but decided to ask later. If pit really could help with catching mice, she might want to catch more. |
Re: Reaching Stones Valley
Of course I know how! Pit mewed, already scenting the air for a likely target. I have to or else I'll starve. This cat was definitely a kittypet if they were surprised he knew how to hunt. Lowering into a crouch, he mewed The first part of hunting is the crouch. You want your tail low, so nothing sees it, and your weight a bit more on your back paws, so you can leap quickly. In his own he moved silently and smoothly, front paws then back stepping in small motions up under him before sinking his weight back a bit more and pouncing on a leaf. @Ella_heart
|
Re: Reaching Stones Valley
Ruby watched surprised. After he was done with the demonstration, she mewed," I guess I always thought every cat had housefolk." She tried do replicate the movements that pit did, crouching, keeping her tail very low to the ground, and trying to keep her weight on her back paws.
( She's not doing it right) @gs29513 |
Re: Reaching Stones Valley
Definitely kittypet. There's a big world out there, away from the twolegs. Pit mewed, his tail flicking as he watched her attempt. It wasn't bad for a kittypets first try, but it wasn't going to catch any mice either. Your tail is good, but you're putting to much weight on you back end. he mewed, walking towards her side to get a better look. You're going to have a hard time doing anything but pouncing, try and get your weight a bit more balanced, and then walk around. If she moved he could get an idea of major problems with her position easier. @Ella_heart
|
Re: Reaching Stones Valley
Ruby's eye's widened a little bit. a bigger world? what other kinds of cats were there?
"do you know any other cats with no housefolk?" she asked, as she adjusted her position. she put more weight on her front paws, but not a lot. then she tried walking forward in the same position. she clenched her teeth with the effort of moving. (still not doing it right. ) @gs29513 |
Re: Reaching Stones Valley
Oh, I know a LOT of other cats with no twolegs. Pit purred, watching as she attempted to modify her position. She still didn't have quite enough weight on her front paws, and her strained motion made it all the more clear, so he parked that for a bit later. I have a mate, a few friends, we live in a place with a LOT of cats. he mewed. And now to fix her crouch. You need to put a bit more of your weight on your front paws. Just.......keep adding a bit more till you can walk easily. he suggested, hoping that would get her to a reasonable solution. @Ella_heart
|
Re: Reaching Stones Valley
Ruby tried it. walking became a little more easier. she felt she had it now.
"thanks!" she mewed. she thought over what else he had said. "Lots of cats? there are lots of cat with no housefolk?" she mewed with disbelief. all this time she had thought all cats had housefolk, but pit was saying there were lots of cats without housefolk. "I wonder what it would be like to live with no housefolk..." she mewed aloud, unaware that she was doing so. @gs29513 |
Re: Reaching Stones Valley
That's much better! Pit purred, before moving to the question. How this cat hadn't realized this.......how much had her twolegs kept her locked up? Had she never been outside and seen a loner? Loads of cats. There are at least 20 where I am. Pit mewed, although it was just a rough estimate. Probably more when he thought about it. Her mumble was perfect. It was as if it was predetermined, though he didn't believe in Starclan or anything. You can come and find out if you'd like. Visit, see if you like it. Maybe you'll like it better without housefolk. he added hopefully. @Ella_heart
|
Re: Reaching Stones Valley
@gs29513 [IDK, I guess Ruby is very interested]
Ruby Blinked, then glanced anxiously at her housefolk. would they allow her too? she shook the thought away. it didn't matter what her housefolk thought! she was her own, and housefolk couldn't boss her around! she hesitated, then mewed, "alright. I'll come and visit." Maybe then I'll decided whether or not I want to stay with my housefolk. that last part she added silently. pit had awoken a new form of curiosity and defiance in her, and she was determined to see that she understood where she wanted to live. |
Re: Reaching Stones Valley
She was considering it, Pit could tell, her eyes were flitting back and forth and back and forth from him to the twolegs. She did agree though. She might be a good cat, he hoped so, but he couldn’t be sure. That will be wonderful. he purred, before turning himself around in the direction of home. It’s this way if you want to go. he added, taking a few steps before looking back at Ruby. (I’m going to hold off on posting there, I have three of him running around already) @Ella_heart

Re: Reaching Stones Valley
Lionstorm's ears twitched when a stranger approached, but he didn't mind his presence when the tom wasn't immediately hostile. "Who wouldn't be?" He returned, moving back once the other tom starting feeling the engravings up. Yeah, Lionstorm wasn't that interested in them - they were just strange looking. "We don't have stones like these in the forest."
The area reeked of Twolegs, so he figured they had something to do with it. He supposed it was confirmed when the Weirdo showed up. Lionstorm had met his fair share of characters, and he never cared for the ones who acted like there was something wrong with them. "Noted," he muttered, not sure why the cat bothered bringing up hunting when he clearly wasn't here for that. Lionstorm didn't care about the stinky prey of the city, he preferred the fresh quarries in the forest. They weren't tainted by the Thunderpaths, the monster fumes that burned throats. Judging by the Clan name he uttered, the cat was cozy with someone from another Clan. Great. Lionstorm wasn't about to get mixed up in some ex-lover's quarrel. He was bored, but not that bored. Back to the handsome black tom, Lionstorm perked his ears. Though examining the rocks with his paws was a little odd, Lionstorm liked the impression he had of this cat more than the other one. He usually had a good judge of character, it's part of how he got so far as leader. "I wasn't expecting cats to be out here, it's a little off the path for most Twolegplace inhabitants." "Well, certain cats come here every so often to visit the Twolegs while they grieve." he purred with a slight flick of his tail. He liked the tone the other tom had, while the other cat gave him some odd feel he didn't know how to describe. "If you don't mind me asking, what is your name?" his bright yellow gaze trailed over to the golden feline, curiosity entering him rather quickly. |
Re: Reaching Stones Valley
It validated the claims the other cat made about Twolegs crying, even if it didn't directly answer the question. Based on grieving .. Lionstorm inferred they were likely grave markers. "So they bury their dead here, and mark it with rocks?" Not unlike the Clans used to do. Lionstorm had a vivid memory of burial tunnels - caverns full of graves. It seemed so distant now.
"We had these back home once.. now there's not really one specific area, it's dependent on the cat." Cats like zGoslingpaw didn't deserve a proper burial. His brother hadn't; but moons ago Lionstorm had been a different cat who wanted to cling to a toxic memory. And now digging him up would be too late. And a little gross. At the question, his ears perked up. "Lionstorm, at your service." His muzzle twisted upwards in a smile. "I don't believe you've graced me with yours." [ @D a s h ] |

Blackstone nodded, putting a paw upon his own, dark furred chest. "Blackstone, but other cats sometimes either call me Black or Stone for short. Also, yes, you're quite correct Lionstorm. Twolegs do this, burying the dead and put these symbolic stones upon them. They possibly do the same with only certain amounts, but judging to the looks of how many there is. It seems very likely they do it to every one they see." His tail gestured to the one right in front of them, looking over at it with his bright yellow gaze. |
Re: Reaching Stones Valley
Yin crept up to the flat stones, her collar jingling slightly. She had never come this far away from her twolegden, and being separated from Yang made her feel jumpy and nervous. Her eyes darted around as she weaved her way between the stones, tail twitching.

Yin's fur smoothed a bit, but she still eyes the other cat warily. He didn't look much older than her. He must still be a kit. She wasn't accustomed to apologizing, but, looking around, she realized she didn't know how to get back home. She might need this cats help. "Sorry." She murmured. "My brothers not here, and I've never been anywhere without him before." She said, to explain. She looked around. "What is this place?"

Forctux slowly walked between the stones, his claws scraping the ground. He hadn't been here more then a few times but he liked it, it was nice and quiet. He flicked the tip of his tail and looked around, maybe there was mice here?

Re: Reaching Stones Valley
Torro's nose twitched as he brought in the scents around him. The sharp scent of cut grass stung the back of his throat. He exhaled sharply, trying to dispell the strong smell before it watered his eyes. He glanced beside him where Tinker was walking a pace behind his shoulder.
He had scrambled over the fence in the late morning and perched himself atop the fence until the back door of the neighboring house slid open and Tinker jingled out, the sunlight hitting her pelt in a way that involuntarily took Torro's breath away. When she noticed him, he saw her change direction and leap easily to the top of the fence. He had tried to present it as though he'd just thought of the idea, though he'd thought of it the night before and had anxiously awaited being able to see her the next day. He asked her if she'd want to take a walk down to Reaching Stone Valley with him. @Ravensong |
Re: Reaching Stones Valley
Tinker padded lightly, following Torro's direction as he led her through a fence to a vast rolling green landscape dotted with odd-shaped stones. Every now and then her long pelt brushed against his. A slow purr started in her throat as the smell of mouse bathed her tongue.
She suddenly stopped and changed direction. She crouched low into the grass and, blue eyes wide, she stared down a root poking up from a nearby tree. A little brown mouse, young and naive she guessed, sat unaware of the dangers in its immediate surroundings. Her tail swished and the mouse's ears sprang up, alerted. She bounded fluidly to close the gap. The mouse turned to dart beneath the root but Tinker pounced and shot a paw out, gripping the mouse with a claw just before it disappeared. She turned, the mouse dangling limply from her jaws, and smiled proudly back at Torro. ( @Toodle ) |
Re: Reaching Stones Valley
Torro sat down, folding his thin tail neatly over his paws. He purred as he looked at the young she-cat bursting with pride over her catch. "That was brilliant!" He praised.
Watching her, it crossed his mind that he could do just that all day. As she stalked the mouse he had a reasonable excuse to be watching her and only her. "I used to catch mice all the time around my housefolks place when I was young...er...younger...when I first came home to them, not much more than a kit." He sighed, frustrated at his ineloquence. Dejectedly, he continued, "They don't come around much anymore so I don't get many chances now. Seems mice aren't quite as dumb as you'd think, huh?" Torro chuckled anxiously and swallowed hard. After a pause he mowed, "What're you going to do with it now? You ever eaten one?" @Ravensong |
Re: Reaching Stones Valley
Tinker cocked her head to the side questioningly. Eaten a mouse?
She padded to Torro and dropped the limp mouse to the ground between them. "I guess that had never even crossed my mind to try. Does it taste good?" ( @Toodle ) |
Re: Reaching Stones Valley
Torro forced himself to hold Tinker's brilliant blue gaze as she stared into him. He nodded, more enthusiastically than he'd have preferred. He tried to redeem himself by measuring his voice as he responded, "Once you get past all the fur, it's delicious, especially warm."
@Ravensong |
Re: Reaching Stones Valley
Tinker laughed, oblivious to the turmoil happening within Torro. "You want to share it with me? It sounds like you've got experience with this." She eyed the fuzzy little heap sitting at her paws. "I'm not really sure where to even start."
She nudged the mouse towards Torro with a gentle paw, encouraging him to take the first bite. ( @Toodle ) |
Re: Reaching Stones Valley
His throat suddenly went dry. "I...sure...I'd be honored...I mean, thank you. A good hunter and generous. You've got it all."
He leaned down and took a tentative bite out of the mouse. He chewed slowly, savoring the warm juices. Then he sat back to let Tinker closer. @Ravensong |
