Event [#event]

The forest was getting colder every day, prey was starting to prepare for the colder moons that seemed to be just around the corner. Cats were beginning to get very cold, even though they all shared dens together (aside from Pikestar of course). It was time someone did something about keeping up the temperatures. Staring up at the early morning sky from the entrance of the RiverClan camp, Reedwhisker huffed and stared at her own breath that soon dissipated. RiverClan needs to keep warm.

Padding close to the Streamstone so that everyone would be able to hear what she had to say. Taking in a deep breath, the brown she-cat fluffed up her fur and began her speech.

"Cats of RiverClan! Leaf-bare is approaching and it is getting colder. I think we can all agree when I say we need warmth!" beginning with a bit of a joke was certainly something Reedwhisker didn't typically do, but she wanted to make sure she sounded friendly enough. "Here's what we can do: kelp or seaweed can be hung on each den entrance. They'll preserve the warmth and will help us last longer throughout the nights."

There... so far, so good. The she-cat waited a moment before continuing, her eyes sharp with determination and slight annoyance at the brisk, chilly air. Perhaps it wasn't best to start this event at dawn, but it would allow them all enough time to work and enjoy the warmth later on in the day.

"Three groups of warriors will be sent out to Lionsbeach to collect seaweed and kelp! Two groups will be sent out to collect moss for our nests! Apprentices can join those groups too if they so wish. Queens, kits, and elders! You all will help by putting the nests together! If there's any moss leftover, put them in a pile at the center of camp so that we can put some on the walls of each den!"

Reedwhisker slowly bent down to form a loaf while she waited for everyone to arrive. This was certainly going to be a good bonding event for all of RiverClan. Pikestar wants me to keep the peace between Clanmates. I sure hope this bonding moment between us all helps this. The she-cat was entirely unsure if it would work, but it was certainly worth a try. Everyone needed to focus on what was important as well as have fun, and with all their minds set on the rogue attacks, they were forgetting how to act with one another as well as survival.

The molly heard one of her clanmates call for cats to help with gathering stuff to keep warm. She needed something to do, so she walked over. Marigoldleap waited for more cats to show up in which she hoped they did.

"I'll help out." Sunstone's meow was loud and clear, despite his attempt at speaking softly. He hated how deep his meow was -- it had the tendency to startle kits from time to time, and he really hated that. Hoping he wouldn't bother anyone or scare them off with his colossal size, the ginger giant settled into his own tight loaf as he waited for more cats to arrive.

"Allow Featherflame the Fierce to assist!" Her booming voice echoed throughout the camp, no doubt disturbing those still asleep. Her fur was still ungroomed from her morning run around the territory, making her look like a big storm cloud. Determined orange eyes poked out from beneath her wild fur, looking at the other volunteers with slight interest. Surely they will not carry more seaweed than I!

From the depths of the clan’s apprentice den, the small black-and-white molly emerged, silent as ever. Her light blue-hued eyes drifted over to Reedwhisker, as well as the growing crowd of clanmates that were gathering. She turned her head briefly to look over to the RiverClan medicine cat den before breathing a sigh through her nose and continuing outside into the clearing. Some cats seemed rather eager to help out with this whole kelp-fetching quest, but maybe that was a good thing. It was better than another dead body popping up out of seemingly nowhere. Cloudpaw uttered a snort at that and simply walked over to blend into the volunteer groups. She didn't usually like attending these kind of things anymore, but it was better than doing nothing.

The elder flicked her ear carefully. Listening to the she-cat. Nodding her head slightly, Smallmouse began to lift her old bones. Limping forward, she gave a small smile.

" I know where some of the best kelp and seaweed growing spots are- after all I've been here in Riverclan for so long. Let me lead some cats. Just because I'm old doesn't mean I can't help my clan, Reedwhisker. "

Her voice was soft and more of a suggestion than a demand. Smallmouse looked to the announcer cat, softly curling her tail in the air.

Flamebriar pricked her ears at the call and stood, giving her pelt a quick shake before padding over. She spotted Marigoldleap among the warriors and gave her daughter a smile as she went to stand by her.

Amberbright opened her eyes to see her breath forming a cold mist upon the ground. The busy noise of paws dragging across earth filled the elders ears. As she raised her body from her nest, her joints pleaded with her to stay still. The cold was painfully fighting her with every stretch of the old calico's body. She managed to stiffly shuffle towards her denmate Smallmouse who was propositioning Reedwhisker to allow for her to join the search party.


Amberbright brushed her small tail against the other aged warrior, "Smallmouse why don't you just tell the young ones where to find it?" She offered, mindful to keep a polite tone. "What if it starts to rain and you get wet? You might unintentionally bring back whitecough." The tri colored elder deliberately avoided the more obvious mention of Smallmouse falling in the river due to her limp, fearing it might cause her denmate to go as a point of pride.

Slatestripe lifted his head at Reedwhisker’s call. Deciding to join this event was a no-brainer for him; Reedwhisker had helped him with his event, so he had to attend her’s. Plus, it sounded relaxing. With all the stress and chaos going on in RiverClan lately, everyone needed something simple to help them relax… as best as they could, at least.

He got up and stretched before heading over to join the event group. He hadn’t handled seaweed in ages, so he hoped he’d still know how.

Goldenleaf wanted to help some cats and went forward to do so, but a sneeze burst from the golden tom. He sniffled, shivering and sneezed again. Do I have whitecough? he thought. Goldenleaf wanted to help the clan, so he stepped forward, and asked Reedwhisker if he could get some kelp to warm up RiverClan’s dens.

Goldenleaf sighed, sitting down, sniffling, when a cough spluttered from his jaws. He felt a little dizzy and walked off, tripping on a pebble, and causing his nose to bleed. Great, he grumbled, now I have a bleeding nose as well as definitely whitecough. Goldenleaf searched for Featherspirit, hoping she didn’t catch anything dangerous like what he had. “Featherspirit?” Goldenleaf wheezed, searching for his mate, and bumping into her.

Troutstone shivered in the cold morning air. He watched as Reedwhisker padded over to the Streamstone and sat beside it. He listened, then started forward, joints cracking in the chill.

Ducking out of the warrior's den as his litter-sister's voice resounded in the clearing, Flintfang was fully ready, prepared for the worst. Had something else happened in RiverClan? Blearily blinking sleep from his eyes, Flintfang was pleasantly surprised that there was no death awaiting him, and doubly so when he found that his sister was hosting an event. A smile weaved it's way onto his face, and Flintfang flicked his longer-than-average tail against the ground, sage hues darting to Silverpaw for a moment. Stopping beside Reedwhisker, he grinned down at her. “I'm ready as well, Reedie.” He teased lightheartedly.

Swiftkit stood at the entrence of the nursery, listening from there until the she-cat stopped. With a squeal of excitment at hearing that she could join, she ran over, tail held high. "I wanna help! Im awesome at helping!" He squeaked, jumping up in down in his own excitment.

Mothdusk also came over to the growing group, they would for sure need the extra warmth as they didn't really have thick fur.

He poked his head out of the Apprentice Den at Reedwhisker's call. There already seemed to be a rather large group gathering, but he obviously still wanted to help. They trotted up to the others, sitting down with their ears pinned. Waiting patiently for instruction.

Thinking that it's not the worst idea and to keep watch, Gingerfrost poofed into existence at the event at the hands of an unknown force because spirited said that it probably wouldn't be able to anymore in two to three hours.

Event [#event]

After a rather large group had gathered around Reedwhisker to hear what she had to say, the she-cat looked very pleased with her Clanmates. It seemed they all agreed to the idea of keeping warm during the harsh season of leaf-bare. Taking in a deep breath, the young warrior got up and stepped forward, casting a welcoming glance to each Clanmate that decided to join. There was… quite a few, even more than what was required for a batch of patrols. But that didn’t stop Reedwhisker from helping her Clan keep the peace amongst each other. No… that pushed her forward.

It seemed like an elder was wanting to lead one of the patrols, but Smallmouse was simply too weak. Luckily Amberbright had stepped in to try and prevent the elder from being reckless. Still… I have to be the one to tell the elder no. I’ll just find something else for Smallmouse to do!

“Thank you all for coming. Before we begin, I have to stress that no elder is to go out of camp. Leaf-bare’s coming and that means there will hardly be any herbs available to treat a cold. However, Smallmouse, you’re free to do as Amberbright suggests and tell the kelp and seaweed gathering patrols where the best places are. And speaking of cold... Goldenleaf, go to the medicine den. I'm afraid you will not be able to participate. Now… Moving on. There’s quite a lot of you, so just stand still until you’ve heard your name get called. I don’t want chaos, all right?” Looking around, this time with a stern gaze, Reedwhisker continued, “First up, I’ll organize the kelp and seaweed gathering patrols! Sunstone, Marigoldleap! Take Birdpaw and Ferretpaw with you!” First patrol… dispatched. “Slatestripe, Featherflame! Take Flintfang, Cloudpaw, and Larkpaw!” That’s the second kelp/seaweed patrol… “Blizzardwind, Silentripple! Take Gingerfrost and Cicadapaw with you!”

Next up were the moss-gathering patrols…

“For the moss-gathering patrols, I’d like… Flamebriar, Paleblossom, Rainfern, and… Bluepaw!” That was the first patrol… one more to go! “Troutstone, Featherspirit! You’ll both be accompanied by Silverpaw!”

The last thing to handle was the moss disposal groups.

“The last thing we need are patrols to dispose of the old moss in each den! There’ll be five patrols, one for each den. You’ll need to set the old moss aside and do nothing until you have further instruction from me. For the patrols, Smallmouse, Amberbright! You’ll be handling the elder’s den with Swiftkit.” That way there won’t be any complaints about the apprentices not doing their job well enough, even though these two elders hardly ever complained about it, it was still better to be safe than sorry. “Mothdusk, you’ll be helping Pebblesplash and Bluebellpaw with the apprentice’s den.” There… two dens covered, 3 more to go! “Wisteriawhisper and Amberpaw! You two will take care of the nursery.” Almost done… “Lilycreek, Wildholly! You two will be handling the warrior’s den!” One more… “Seedheart! You will help me take care of Pikestar’s den!”

Pikestar wasn’t assisting in the event, but he was probably out on a walk or something. They needed to clear his head with all the chaos that has been going on, so this should be a nice surprise!

Slatestripe listened carefully for his duty and patrol to be announced. His name came up relatively quickly, assigned to a seaweed gathering patrol. Good! He was hoping he’d get the chance to visit the ocean again, even if it was likely that the water would be quite chilly. He was relieved that the elders would be restricted to camp, since his mother was participating. He silently thanked Reedwhisker for her good choice.

He moved off to his own area, separate from the group. Hopefully that would make it easier for his patrolmates to find him. They had a good sized patrol, so they really had to keep track of everyone as best they could. As he waited, Slatestripe reached into his memories for what each cat looked like. He hadn’t interacted recently with any of them, so he wasn’t as familiar with their appearances as others in his Clan. Still, he was sure he’d be able to recognize each of them.
