Dawning Woods

With the loss of the Icy Heartlands, ShadowClan has claimed a vast chunk of the evergreen forest where the land sprawls in a rolling green carpet as far as the eye can see. The trees are great giants compared to the pine forest, but the evergreen forest does not provide as much shade as the sunlight frequently chases the shadows away. The territory is home to abundant prey like frogs, lizards, snakes, birds, squirrels, and mice. Predators like owls, foxes, coyotes, and badgers, are known to frequent the area.

now that icy heartlands had been lost to the twolegs, rook was glad that lostspark had taken her 500 kids and rook herself there before, it made her feel a bit more shadowclan to have known the old landmarks and she would feel even more shadowclan after venomwink and lostspark had sacrificed themselves for a quick tour. being one of the first apprentices to see the new parts of territory...mmh yes. she wouldnt brag because that would erase all respect anyone had in her, but if she was ever on a patrol she could shine with her knowledge nonetheless. unlike the other two bits of new territory this landmark wasnt as wet and marshy as the other two, and the wide sprawling nature of it made her bit nervous. she wasnt small enough to be carried away by any birds but she could expect larger predators would like open spaces like these and would probably not like to be around here for a long time. the space was also brighter, not as many long, pitch black shadows as in some other parts of shadowclan territory, and it took her eyes a moment to adjust to the shift.
maw slightly agape to taste the air she was happy to note no strong smells, not any recent ones at least, and decided she could feel safe for the moment.
"i jus' wanna check it out real quick" she mewed, not bothering to turn and look at her patrol mates as she watched a mouse scurry away. she ducked her head, letting her nose hover close to the ground for information. it was sunny, probably good for brighteye or broom that liked the sun. maybe boneset and marigold if the ground was moist enough.

"Of all the idiots." The words were a low, menacing snarl. Lostspark did not mind bending to Rookpaw's whims for these outings. Her apprentice wanted to see the new territory? Lostspark would comply without question. After all, she was learning, and besides, Lostspark wished to see the new areas as well. Another warrior wished to accompany them because they couldn't go on their own? For once, someone had sense.

Which brought her back to the topic of the cat she was currently pissed at. "Shadowflame." She growled as she stormed up to the she-cat. "Explain to me why you felt it absolutely necessary to come out here alone against your leader's wishes and do absolutely nothing."

[ @alec - Rookpaw / @ollie - ? / @Goopysharkboi - Shadowflame | @glitch - Since Silverpaw is already being confronted on the other territory thread, I will assume he went from here to there and won't have Lost scold him twice. :heartbounce: ]

"Secondly, I figured it would be a good idea to get a basic view of the territory so I may figure out shortcuts and strategic hiding places should I find any intruders to scare off." She then added with a small grunt. "For example, by using the undergrowth there I can blend in with my surroundings and take down the intruder from behind." She then used her tail to gesture to the undergrowth to her left. She had a pretty good point.

rookpaw could once again count herself lucky that lostspark was one, bothering to keep up with her without complaint, and two, that she wasnt at the receiving end of another scolding. venomstrike could also count himself lucky to have caught their conversation in camp and gotten himself a spot on this top exclusive trip. to her own surprise, rookpaw didnt overly mind, he didnt seem like a cat to speak a lot or get in the way.
unlike last time, rook didnt immediately catch up to lostspark when the older feline turned to growl at shadow-something, but instead ignored the brighteye she had just come across, it wasnt leaf fall so it would be a waste to gather herbs for a cough that wasnt going around, in order to gently pick a bit of broom. new leaf seemed to have treated the plants around here rather nicely, the broom was a bright yellow already and even though she hadnt looked at the brighteye for more than a moment, it looked nice and green and about to go into bloom.
the plants sweet smell now right under her nose she trotted up to lostspark, broom was probably the last present anyone would ever think to gift or receive but this wasnt her full intention anyway. it was more so the effort of bringing something good to the clan.. silver eyes briefly hovered on shadowflame before the apprentice sat, placing the broom on the grass by her paws before turning her head to observe her surroundings from here. the new territory was interesting, yes, but she knew it was in her interest to both be careful and well behaved enough to not disappear out of her mentors view..or well, earshot. attention resting on the other warrior, she wondered what kind of cat venomstrike would turn out to be, perhaps a timid warrior always keen on making sure he could not possibly overstep like seabreeze, or one with too much confidence for their own good. judging by the scars it might just be of the second option.
she hadnt really intended on listening to the..situation..between shadowflame and lostspark but when the warrior growled back, white tipped ears twitched in interest. rook had expected a apology, maybe excuses but not for shadowflame to straight up growl at lostspark. slowly, for no particular reason, lostspark couldnt see her anyway, be it because of her blindness or simply the fact that rook was sitting at an angle that made it impossible, she turned her head to follow the interaction. they bit their tongue, strategy, hiding places and shortcuts werent their job to figure out, there would be enough time later, after dawnstar cleared them for general access.
'i dont think its amongst your duties to investigate territory not yet cleared for regular access' she wanted to add, give her opinion on the whole issue, but she didnt, instead, cool grey eyes switched attention to lostspark briefly before returning to the warrior. striped tail tapped the ground quietly, the way rookpaw held herself shouldnt give the warrior much room to guess her opinion on this beyond displeasure or annoyance and rook wasnt particularly keen on giving them more attention than necesarry anyway.

Shadowflame just rolled her eyes. "Even if it breaks rules, it helps to get a good layout and plan of the area before full exploration can occur." She replied calmly.

This warrior was really itching to be put in her place, wasn't she?

"Enlighten me, Shadowflame." Lostspark crooned, voice turning infectiously sweet as the warrior thought it wise to growl back at her, but her stance and the agitated flicking of her tail tip portrayed her annoyance. "What was it Dawnstar said last meeting? I can't seem to remember. Ah, yes, I seem to recall now. Let me recite it for you. Cats are allowed out of camp in patrols of three or more, and only if you have permission from one of the Enforcers, Dawnstar, Mistlewhisker, or Mossfreckle. If you break the rule, you get a demotion for seven sunrises. Continue to break that rule and She'll come up with more punishments."

Lostspark cocked her head to the side. "Additionally, I suggest treating those above your rank with more respect. I do hope you'll enjoy being Shadowpaw." The former Medicine Cat offered coldly, and then turned to Rookpaw, gaze flitting to the brighteye near. That was a new one. . . "We're going to have to entertain having a straggler with us -" A tail flick towards Shadowflame (soon to be Shadowpaw), before she continued. "- but is that also a herb I am unaware of?" She tilted her head towards the brighteye.

Yellowtwist led his group of three out into new territory. Dawning woods seemed less ideal than Icy Heartlands (THANKS IDIOT TWO-LEGGED TALL. THINGS?) but complaining wouldn't do him any good. Well, he didn't need to sneak up on herbs. If he did for any reason he would use the unfortunately small amount of shadows laced in the woods. "I'll get the juniper berries. Pigeonpaw. you choose what you want to get and Foxsomething can grab what's left over." he announced, darting to find something. Oh and would you look at that, some blue berries clinging to a bush. He picked a branch and ran back to where the patrol would be.

Pigeonpaw
[ The Collector and Heightened Perception (smell) active]

Wow.
Amber eyes grew wide with wonder as the grey apprentice followed her mentor, head craned back so far that the back of her skull almost touched her back. I didn't trees could get this big! The spruces near camp were twigs compared to this. Still, this place still (somehow) allowed down more sunlight than most other parts of the territory that she had visited so far.

Her attention was slowly, unwillingly pulled back to the task at paw when Yellowtwist spoke. Right, herbs! "I can take the Lady's mantle one!" she pipped up. "and you look for the elder plant." That was all sorted out, she trotted off to look for the plants.

[Rolled a 9]
A domed bushy cluster of small yellow flowers with large, ruffled leaves at its base was it? Yeah, right there! Tail happily flicking behind her, she bent down under the low spruce tree, head popping up again with [d4 = 4] yellow-flowered plants.

[Rolled a 12]
But time to find more, and over the fresh scent of the Lady's mantle, she could smell something else too. She wasn't sure what it was, but it smelled the same way other flowers did. Like pungent and stuff. Momentarily placing down her plants, she followed the gentle aroma to a bush not too far away. There was [d4 = 1] plant there that looked like how Mossy had described elder! Ok five plants already, but it would be good to find a few more. She had killed it at the herb-gathering event so had to do it well this time too!

Maybe letting a blind cat lead wasn't the best idea, but Iceclaw made it work. With a rather aggressive spin, her turned to his patrolmates and paused.

"I am pretty sure this is where we need to be. Don't correct me if I'm wrong." Iceclaw spoke lowly as he flicked his tail against a tree trunk. Well, this was going to be the easiest place ever to navigate. All he could hear was trees rustling and animals in the distance. The sounds of the leaves, however, almost completely drowned out the noises of the animals. This was getting more frustrating by the second.
He turned back around and ducked his head down, making his was around the trees. Making sure he wasn't straying too far from the rest of the patrol, he tried his best to recognise the scent of the herbs.

Darkcloud
Shadowclan guard
Purrks: Just a scratch and Shadow fiend(both active)

Darkcloud followed the rest of the patrol through their territory, ears pricked for any dangers that might be lurking in this unknown part of Shadowclan. It was always important to be vigilant, especially when they weren't familiar with this new place. Sparing Iceclaw a glance, she also went off to find what dhe was set on gathering. Moonpaw would probably follow one of them, she didn't care who.

Slipping into the shadows, the guard made her way towards the buzzing sound she'd heard a few moments earlier. A beehive, no doubt. She'd taken it upon herself to collect the item with the most risks. She found what she was searching for soon enough. The golden honeycomb heavily guarded by honeybees with a nasty sting was her prize. A difficult resource to attain due to the chance of getting attacked by the yellow and black insects.

Waiting a moment, Darkcloud struck. Still cloaked in shadows, she swiftly reached a paw into the hive a clawed out a bundle of honeycomb, the sticky liquid coating her fur as she retreated. The bees were left in a frenzy, and a few manged to sink their stingers into her flesh but she escaped mostly unscathed. She got of lucky this time; Darkcloud could resist a small amount of pain but anything more she would feel. Leaving the shadows, she Returned to the last place the patrol had met, she waited for her clanmates with a mouth full of honeycomb.

~ BRIARSPLASH ~
very large & fluffy dilute gray tortie she-cat with goldish-green eyes
[ shadowclan warrior | she-cat | 26 moons | abrasive, standoffish, loyal ]

~

When Briarsplash arrived, the first thing she noted were the massive evergreen trees. The she-cat's head angled up as she took in the impressive size, eyes glinting in the sunlight. It was less... shady, here. But that was alright; Briar had never been one to be too good at slinking in the shadows, despite her home Clan, from her lack of graceful coordination and her hulking size. Just more reasons as to why she'd stick out as a non-Clanborn cat, but hey, at least it wouldn't do anyone else much good here either.

She tasted the air, grateful to be filled with the faint scent trails of critters like mice, lizards, birds, squirrels... they should have plenty to choose from. Glancing back at her patrol as they arrived, she meowed in her surprisingly soft voice, "Alright... Mistlewhisker asked us to mark the borders while we're here. Make sure you get to that 'n catch as much prey as you can. We can meet back here when we're done. Don't be late."There was no way she was going to want to report her first leading patrol late.

And... it felt good to be the one ordering around for once (even though it was just an ordinary part of patrols, anyway). A bit of her was daunted by it, but the greater part of her felt a little thrill in her chest. After saying her piece, the large she-cat dipped her head and bounded off towards the north. She immediately began marking her scent all over the trees as she narrowed her eyes, pinpointing a lizard in the near distance.

[Roll: 13 | Success]

The creature was a little dumb, so it wasn't too hard for Briarsplash to slam her paw down on the critter as it scuttled right in front of her. Chuckling with amusement, she scraped some dirt over it to hide the bounty and padded forward, heading for the next chunk of trees to mark and hunt in.

She glanced over at her two patrol mates, who both seemed to have gathered plants already. As had Pigeonpaw, already carrying 5 plants total... but she had always had a knack for finding things and carrying many items at once so...

[Rolled a 5]
Yelly seemed to already be preparing to go back, but Pigeonpaw quickly darted over to another bush to peek around it, hoping to find a few more herbs (she could maybe carry like three more? But then she would definitely be at max). Argh, nothing.

[Rolled a 10]
Quickly shooting the two others another look... would she have time to search more before they had to head back? She decided that the answer was yes, but this time she put down the herbs she was carrying to be able to sniff the air it took a heartbeat before she managed to pick up on the sweet scent of herbs again, recognizing it as elder once again, and darting after it. She trotted back with [d4 = 3] more elder plants before picking up the rest of her herbs and skipping after the two older cats.

But you can't catch me now

Wispypaw said nothing as she followed after Briarsplash just followed after their footsteps that she could listen for. She didn't bother to look up at the supposedly towering trees or their surroundings. There is no point to it if you can't even see it with your own eyes so she never bothered to 'look' around like others did. What she could do was smell the air around them and take in all sorts of scents, like wandering prey or plants. She wasn't sure where the territory borders should even be marked, how does one know when their territory should end? She'd be fine with hunting since she got that lesson thanks to Fenneldrop, even if the other sounded unsure of it all. Wispypaw was utterly lost on the marking part, she hadn't really been on any kind of border patrol or anything like that before. Dark blue glazed eyes just stared blankly at where Briarsplash was standing before they went off, she didn't even get to ask her question. "Humpf" she pouted, well she could get her answer from her other patrol mate, maybe they'd know.

"Hillstrider, right?" she quickly addressed them, trying to not give them a chance to run off too. No way would she let them get away, she wanted answers and she'd get them one way or another. "How would I go about 'marking' the territory border? Like how far do we even go?" she questioned him. If no one know she'd probably would go as far as she physically could, why not let the clan have more land for themselves. Yet she had a feeling that some wouldn't appreciate her doing just that so she sucked it up and ask instead of doing.

Hillstrider
ShadowClan
he/him | 20 moons
[Big fluffy orange tabby with yellow eyes]

· · ────────────── · ·
[Briarsplash - @squidz ] [Wispypaw - @Kix ]
· · ────────────── · ·
Hillstrider padded along with his patrol mates, bringing up the rear as they meandered into new-ish territory. While the orange tom had a physique that would mean trouble for opponents, he was about as threatening as a ray of sunshine. Stalking through the shadows was something he failed spectacularly at, especially since he really, really liked to talk.

“Dawning Woods, yeah!” Hillstrider commented as they approached the territory piece known as the Dawning Woods. “I’ve never been, but I heard it’s neato.”

The trio paused in the dappled clearing, Briarsplash giving out instructions before peeling off. Hillstrider smiled blithely, turning his head to look at the apprentice. “Seems like it’s you and me, huh?” He didn’t mind sticking with Wispypaw at all. He noticed her gaze never quite locked on anything, as well as the milky film over her eyes. Ah, so she was blind. She did very well getting here! When Wispypaw asked him how to scent borders, the eager tom beamed. Learning opportunity!! Totally tubular!

“It’s easy, little dude!! You go up to the border—though in this case it’s a bit different—and start rubbin’ your chin or flank on stuff.” He pressed his body against a tree—partially for demonstration though that wouldn’t help much but mostly so he could get this itch that’s been bothering him on his shoulder. “The whole point is to get your scent on whatever you’re scenting, so it doesn’t really matter how you do it. Go wild!”

Hillstrider watched as Wispypaw gave her attempt, cheering her on with agreements and praise. Once that was taken care of, he opened his jaws to scent for prey. He still kept an eye on Wispypaw if she needed help—blind cats could hunt just fine but she was still an apprentice—but now had his main focus (not that there was much of it to begin with) on hunting.

Scenting a bird nearby, Hillstrider dropped into a crouch and crept along the giant trees, his beautifully striped orange pelt glowing in the sun. He looked just like the sunbeams trailing down through the afternoon pollen and dust. The bird scent became overwhelming just as Hillstrider spotted its brown feathers through the grass. Finch!! How fun! The young warrior unknowingly stuck his tongue out as he waggled his haunches, leaping into the air with a swift jump and landing on the surprised bird. It cheeped once before he nipped its throat. Nice!

[Hillstrider gained +1 finch!]

The tom moved on, finch tucked away under a root for later. The scent of a vole caught his attention next, and he trotted through the undergrowth on its trail. The vole was easy to spot—it has scuffled out of the undergrowth for a quick snack on a pine cone. Hillstrider took the opportunity and pounced, killing the vole swiftly. He glanced down at the now lifeless form at his paws. “Sorry, little dude. Hope there is plenty of snacks in the vole afterlife.” Did voles have an afterlife? Hm. Maybe Mossfreckle would know. He was the expert on all things StarClan, after all!! At least, Hillstrider assumed so.

[Hillstrider gained +1 vole!]

She glanced back once or twice, noting the large tom's shining pelt and the way he stood out like the sun itself in the middle of the greenish-brown woods. As much as part of her wanted to be annoyed by his exuberance, the other part of her was... intrigued, if she were honest.

Shaking off her curiosity for now, Briar returned to hunting. It wasn't long before she scented some more creatures in the undergrowth, making her tail twitch with anticipation. Dropping into a hunter's crouch, the fluffy she-cat stalked forward, her eyes on the prize ahead — a juicy-looking vole.

[ Roll: 9 | Fail ]

But in her clumsiness, her big paws snapped a twig, making the vole shoot off into the bushes. Spitting out a quiet curse, Briarsplash shook out her pelt, continuing to grumble even as she scented the air again. Ah, another creature... a bird, this time. Smells like a robin?

[ Roll: 14 | Success ]

Trying to keep her tail from twitching in excitement, Briarsplash kept herself low, dragging herself along slowly as she approached her prey. Wiggling her haunches, the she-cat built up power and launched herself at the robin. It started to fly off right as she was midair, but she quickly lashed out a large paw, slamming it down to the forest floor. Letting out a satisfied grunt, the warrior quickly bit its neck, killing it.

It wasn't long on her trek when she scented another critter — a frog, its pungent scent familiar by now to her nose. Doing her best to be subtle, she slunk through the trees and came up behind the thing, getting ready to strike.

[ Roll: 16 | Success]

And thankfully, it landed. She snagged the frog by its legs as it tried to hop away, quickly delivering a killing bite. She had never been too fond of the taste of frogs and toads, but hey, prey was prey. The camp needed all the help it could get.

After that, it had been some time, and she hadn't scented anything else in awhile. Making sure to brush her pelt along everything she could, she eventually made her way back to the meeting place, gathering her catches together. She sat with her bushy tail curled over her paws, waiting for her patrolmates to arrive with her golden-green eyes curiously narrowed. She mused on how well Hillstrider and Wispypaw must be getting on — did they stick together? Would Hill's racket or his pelt scare off the prey sooner? The thought amused her as she waited.

Wispypaw
I'm here, I'm there, I'm everywhere
But you can't catch me now

+ she/her + No purrks

Wispypaw had half a mind to snap at this warrior for calling her little dude, she wasn't a dude. As far as she knew she was a girl and had been so since birth, nothing changed since then. She could deal with that later on for now she had a job to do and she wanted to get it over with. She listened to the other explain marking the border since she couldn't watch him. She could faintly hear something brushing against another something but she couldn't be sure if that was Hillstrider or just some poor animal nearby. The apprentice gave a nod as she showed she understood his words, she wasn't sure why she didn't think of that. Yet the more thought she put into it she hadn't been out of camp that much since she was made an apprentice. With what she was told she moved towards the nearest tree she could smell and brushed herself against the bark of said tree. She briefly looked in the warrior's direction before she moved on knowing she did herself right.

Since they seemed to have gotten the marking part of their patrol done she guess hunting was now her main goal. With ease, she turned away from Hillstrider, who most likely already started to hunt on his own. Wispypaw raised her head a bit to get a whiff of the air, something would show up. Indeed as she suspected, she caught the scent of a mouse something small but it would be something rather than nothing. Unlike others, she very much would rather bring the smallest prey possible back than come back empty-pawed. Wispypaw wanted to prove that she was just as good as those around her despite being blind. She knew her mom was blind and she was also aware that she hadn't always been like that so it was different for her. Remembering Fenneldrops teachings she brought herself to a hunter's crouch easily and slowly inched herself closer in the mouse's direction.

[ rolled a 20 ]

With luck and her noting how stronger the creature's scent got as she closed in on the thing, she stopped before she got too close. Not once did she step on any stick or leave or anything to make a sound, she wasn't going to make a single mistake. All it took was a moment of her launching herself forward with her claws out before her to snag a hold of the mouse and a quick bite to the head. Now she stood up with the limp body of the mouse in her jaws as she puffed out her chest fur in pride. Hah, she caught her first prey on a patrol and not during a lesson! Now she had to go see if she could have another go at catching something else. A soft song of an annoying tune alerted her to what she assumed was some kind of bird, one she couldn't tell. Wispypaw wasn't entirely sure if she was capable of going for a bird yet since she had only dealt with land vermin before. She was going to go have a try at it anyway and see how it went, maybe luck was still on her side for the moment. Quickly she placed the mouse in a safe spot where it wouldn't get stepped on or lost so she could get it later.

[ rolled a 12 ]

The dark feline went back into a hunter crouch as she tracked down where the annoying screeching was coming from, she could just barely catch its scent. Yet she realized it got a bit closer so that told her it must have landed on the ground somewhere, hopefully close by. Luck wasn't on her side as she had accidentally brushed against a bush she hadn't realized she had been too close to. With the sound alerting the bird to her presence, she acted desperately and went in for the kill before the damned thing could fly away. Her speedy movement although messy had managed to help her snag the nuisance but she didn't stop her momentum and she went tumbling into a tree in her haste to grab the bird. It left her feeling dizzy as she lay somewhat upside down against the tree but she had the bird clutched in her deadly claws.

Now this was just embarrassing, she wasn't supposed to be a mess like this, she was meant to be graceful. Something was telling her that Hillstrider hadn't wandered far from her so obviously the loudmouth saw the mess she just caused. Wispypaw huffed as she bit ahold of the bird as she moved to be upright, leaving her fur in somewhat of a ruffled manner. If the tom said anything about her mistake then she wouldn't say anything about it, she wouldn't admit it even happened. She traced her scent back to her original kill and picked it up before she made her move to the area she was last in with Hillstrider.

The scent of a mouse caught Hillstrider's attention, and the orange tom left his prey behind to track it. It was easy enough, something he had done dozens of times before. A scuffle from nearby had the mouse squeaking in suspicion, darting off into the ferns before Hillstrider could get the jump on it. He growled, flashing forward in a blur of orange to chase it. He was by no means fast, but his strides were long, allowing him to catch up and slam his paw down on the mouse, killing it instantly. Phew, that was close!

[Hillstrider gained +1 mouse!]

The warrior was too distracted by his own prey to notice Wispypaw's fumble. Even if he had seen it, he wouldn't have said anything other than a friendly encouragement. Hillstrider picked up his other prey, heading back to the apprentice and making an impressed noise through his prey.

Meeting up with Briarsplash again, Hillstrider gave her a smile to indicate they were ready.

Briarsplash's tail tip twitched in a muted greeting as Hillstrider and Wispypaw returned, satisfied to see a few pieces of prey each in their jaws. Nodding once as wordless approval, she gestured with her fluffy plume of a tail towards ShadowClan's new camp.

"C'mon... let's head back before we're late. The sun's gettin' lower,"she meowed in her soft, raspy voice.

With that she picked up her three pieces of prey, only slightly grossed out by the taste of frog on her tongue — but someone would like it, or someone would eat it. Prey was prey. Then she led the trio back, proudly taking up the front.

"Dawning Woods is another are with forest, and it's also pretty green. The trees are larger than pines, which are what you normally find in Shadowclan. It's a shady place, and there are lots of types of prey, including frogs. There are also a lot of predators who roam here too, so be careful here! And everywhere else, for that matter." Darkfire explained. "Any questions?" he asked Sunpaw.

[Hawkbite]
Enforcer Commander
Shadow Fiend | Agatha Kitty | Kitty Softpaws

It was one of his last attempts to find Eggpaw, wherever the apprentice had run off to. It appeared the feline had fled the clan, leaving a bitter taste in the Commanders mouth. He'd tried so hard to get that cat trained and ready to go, but it appeared he didn't want to finish the training anyway. Oh well.

The Commander was stopped dead in his tracks as a squealing was heard at a distance. It wasn't a prey squeal, it appeared to be a cat. A kitten? Well, this would be interesting if his hunch was correct. Hawkbite trekked through the shadows, staying hidden in case this was some sort of trap set up by the cannibal or another clan.

Only upon finding and confirming this wasn't a trap, he would leave the shadows and find himself blinking confused down at a tiny kitten. Hmm, the Commander had to contemplate his choices here, but in the end, deemed it okay to bring the kitten back to Dawnstar to deal with. Perhaps Nightshiver would take it in? He wasn't sure what other queens were in the nursery at this time, but he knew he could always approach Nightshiver with things like this.

Quickly, Hawkbite scooped up the kitten by it's scruff and began trekking back to camp with a quickened pace. He didn't need this squealing to attract predators.

Floating. An escape from reality. But what Flashpaw had just experienced was too horrible to stay that way for long. Something had caught her attention. From up here a trail of blood still caught her eye. That kick to the flank she’d landed on her assassin. Had it done that much damage? Her jade green hues focused on the forest floor. Pain radiates through her wounds, and she couldn’t stop shaking. But she was alive and that was all that mattered. Breath coming in short gasps, Flashpaw attempted to ease down from the tree she had climbed. Somehow. Even though she had no idea how to climb. Instincts must have kicked in or something. Her descent was choppy and uneven, often almost falling. Loud helps of pain whenever that happened, as it sent a jolt of agony through her shoulder wound. Shuddering, The ginger feline finally ended her trip down by falling a short distance, causing another sharp cry of pain. She realized that the trail of blood led far into the bushes toward camp. With a small squeak as she attempted to hold back another cry, she began staggering toward camp. What she didn’t expect however was to scent death. Strongly. And another scent met her nose. Starrypelt? Was that her assassin? Flashpaw didn’t have the energy to check. Her limbs didn’t want to support her. Shaking, she collapsed, and the sight of a tail she nearly hurled. Memories. It happened with Foreststrike. But this time she was alone. And it was evident she had killed her. Pure horror jolted through her. The Lost Melody had killed a warrior. How? Why? Well, the kick must’ve done more damage than she thought. She had kicked blindly. How could she tell? And it was okay since it was an attack on her… right? Trembling madly, a wave of nausea hit the ginger tabby and she convulsed, turning to hurl in the shrubs. She needed medical help. That was clear.”H-Help!” she yowled, voice cracking. “Help, Help me! Help me! help me!” Her hoarse scratchy voice couldn’t stop crying out. There was a comfort in it for some reason. Knowing the world could hear her. “Please!” her howls faltered and cracked, and after a moment she fell silent. Breathe. Breathe. Wait. If nobody comes, try the hell again.

Slytiger, Beetlejuice and Flashpaw had not returned. Irritation ran hot through Mistlewhisker's pelt, though her face remained expressionless. Slytiger could take care of himself, and Beetlejuice was about as reliable as a cloud, but if Flashpaw was left behind... That was problematic for everyone. Mostly Slytiger and Beetlejuice.

Mistlewhisker stalked through the territory, picking past the scents of her clan mates and prey to look for any hint as to where the patrol went. Frustratingly, she couldn't pick up anything until she reached the Dawning woods. The sacharinne scent of blood reached her nose, and Mistlewhisker paused. she opened her jaws to scent, ears pinning back as she recognized the cat scent along with it. Flashpaw. The deputy raced forward, following the blood scent has it got stronger and stronger. Another cat's mingled with it--Starrypelt. What was she doing out of camp alone? Mistlewhisker couldn't recall anyone approving her outting. A low growl sounded in her throat.

Cries for help echoed through the forest, reaching Mistlewhisker's large ears. Her head jerked up and in the direction, ears swiveling to get a better location of where it was coming from. Mistlewhisker sprinted towards the sound, leaping over rocks and bushes. If she found this apprentice dead she swore to StarClan she was going to kill every suspect until the killings stopped.

But there she was--alive. Bloodied and battered, but alive. "Flashpaw." Mistlewhisker called, trotting forward and circling the apprentice, inspecting her. She kept her ears swiveled for sounds of any attackers that might be trying to ambush her. "Who attacked you?" Maybe the attacker was still in the area--was it Starrypelt? "Where is Slytiger? Beetlejuice?"

A Yowl was rising in the ginger tabby’s throat just as Mistlewhisker had showed up. The sight of a cat who probably wouldn’t kill her had The Lost Melody shaking violently in relief. As shock was wearing off the pure horror of what had happened brought her stuttering back, for the moment where it had loosened its grip was over. Her vocal chords were choppy once more. “G-G-Got l-lost. Was t-t-try-trying to g-go b-b-back t-to c-camp.” The overwhelming death stench from Starrypelt had bile rising in her throat again. “Sh-sh-she— St-Starryp-pelt— t-tried t-to k-k-kill me.” Wide jade hues stared, stunned, at the body behind her. Another shudder of horror. Then, a small, quivering whimper. “S-so I k-killed h-her.” Her despair was evident. She was telling the truth, she had wounds to show for it. But the pure shock of her murdering her own murderer was taking a toll. “C-c-climbed a-a t-tree t-to e-escape. K-kicked h-h-her o-in th-the b-belly a-area h-hard w-with claws o-o-out. I-I was j-just s-so scared and—“ Flashpaw’s voice cracked off as she tried to regain her composure, but for the 11 moon old it was pointless. There was nothing that could cure the traumatizing kill she had made.

“I-I sh-should g-get b-b-back t-to c-camp.” Her tight mew uttered, and her shaky legs unfolded. But their weakened muscles protested, leaving the ginger tabby struggling to stand for long. And after about ten seconds without assistance she found herself falling back down with a sharp, primitively wordless yelp. Right. May need to work on it. One step at a time, one paw in front of the other. Step one: walking. But her unhelpful vocal cords were hoarse and her throat dry, so the tabby just stared at Mistlewhisker, then tried to stand again, hoping her message got across. Stupid stutter. Stupid voice. Stupid murder.

Mistlewhisker raised her head to look over in the direction where Starrypelt's scent was coming from, spotting a light brown pelt within the bushes. She cursed in her head, turning her attention back to Flashpaw. Another attempted murder. But it seemed this time, they messed with the wrong cat. Flashpaw's ability to take out a warrior was commendable, and she had saved Mistlewhisker and Dawnstar a lot of future headaches. But addressing that could come later. First, they needed to get her back to camp. "Come along," she murmured, helping Flashpaw stand upright. "You need to be seen by Mossfreckle."

The pair headed back to camp.
