Wrenclaw - then Wrenpaw - had shown interest and gained what he considers strong feelings for a close friend around his age (She-cat 1). After a while the two had learned the feelings were mutual and made a promise to each other that when they became warriors, they'd become mates as well. At the time, the idea was harmless and Wrenpaw didn't over think it.

Later, after moons of being together, Wrenclaw had drawn close to another she-cat (she-cat 2). At first he didn't acknowledge his feelings for her as he had taken (she-cat 1) as a mate. He wanted to stay devoted. Although (she-cat 2) was intoxicating in his eyes as he knew he couldn't have her and unable to face these feelings, he kept the closeness a secret from (she-cat 1).

Now, (she-cat 1) had learned she was expecting his kits. Wrenclaw couldn't handle the news and ran to (she-cat 2) for comfort. Wrenclaw had realized he wasn't ready for kits and really didn't want them in the first place. So after hearing the news, he slowly leaves (she-cat 1) in favor of (she-cat 2). A few moons go by and his (kits 1-4) are born, although Wrenclaw hardly visits them and his "mate". Finally, he owned up to his feelings for (she-cat 2) and gets brutally rejected. Unable to cope with the rejection, Wrenclaw and (she-cat 2) drift apart and Wrenclaw runs back to (she-cat 1). There, he gets rejected again and with his confusion and how upset he was, he begins to flirt with other she-cats.
Some of these she-cats, he breaks their hearts while 1-2 expect his kits whom he leaves after hearing the news.

I believe Dux is taking the role of she-cat 1 and one of the kits.
