ghost by the window [open]

[bringing it back]

"Hey! Did you see it?"

"What?"

"The cat. It was there a minute ago.."

"You're just seeing things."

Once upon a time, a beautiful white house in the city that was filled with twolegs ended up packing one day and disappeared. After that, constructions of new houses was built a block away but for some reason they never bothered tearing down the old white house, leaving it for vegetation to flourish around it from outside and in. Paint peeling, birch wood inside continued to rot, lifting up all over has vines intertwined with it and family portraits still hung on the walls that's caked in dust. Many traveling cats attempted to enter the home yet tall, thick weeds and rats made it unapproachable so they passed by. And others felt a cold chill down their spine once stepping in and spooked out seeing a white cat looking out the window then disappearing in a blink of an eye. Rumors sparked that twolegs took everything after a death in the family except for their cat and was left to die. Now the cat haunts the house, still hoping that one day their owner will return.

Though, it's not true. Not the slightest.

It was morning sun-high has the light ray's beam through the broken windows and every cracked crevices of brick walls and dust sprinkled down from ceiling tops making it look like a snowy paradise. "Achoo!" a white cat snoozed away on top of a torn down beam sneezing after every snore till the point he rubbed his paw against his black nose, slowly opening his grey, brown speckled eyes toward the bright window. "Agh, I really gotta clean this place up," he grumbled, stretching out his hind legs and stood up, jumping from one beam to another till he reached the dusty grounds. Casper started off his day by tiding the place a bit so he doesn't have another sneeze-attack like last time. The angora swept the ground with some ferns he found stick through the kitchen window and knocked down some wooden beams that was bound to fall down anytime soon. His eyes scanned around at the white and yellow flowers blooming in his little home. Yes, it's a beautiful sight to see and a blessings to sleep on at times except when it's summer time around. I wonder if that old cat Mastoff is in the city, his mind ran across the old, no good pixie bob tom. He couldn't help it since he was the only cat who raised him..and the only cat who ever visits. Cats tried to enter in yet ran out the second they step inside. I wonder why that happens..

Rook
__________

Here it was, the legendary haunted house of the twolegplace. Well, perhaps not quite legendary and probably not haunted but certainly the talk among the kittypets in the area. It was hard to make your way through the neighborhood without hearing something or other about the old house, especially when there had been a recent 'sighting'. The peeling paint, rotting wood, and overgrown vegetation weren't terribly intimidating during the day but at night they could certainly instill fear in the hearts, and curiosity, of sheltered kittypets. It was easy to see how such stories might emerge from such a place.

That was what brought Rook here - curiosity. The small tom felt an unnatural amount of anxiety standing at the end of the pathway and staring up at the old building. He didn't believe the stories, necessarily, but he hesitated all the same before continuing up the cobblestone walk.

(sorry about the abrupt ending, brain shut down but i wanted to post it anyway a a a @vermin)

Damn this cold!
Casper ran around, zig-zag and hopping to each shaky beam with an abundance lump of bush in his jaws as he stuffed the holes exposing his warm home of the winter cold and repeatedly came back to smear mud over it. His paws coated in dark, cold filth from the back garden. His grey eyes scanned around for any more gaps, holes or sense of any cold breeze coming in eventually spotting on a tiny crack from above. Barreling barrels, it's so high up! And dangerous.. his grey eyes danced around at each beam to see where he should step over to reach all the way up. But, the beams get weaker to the tippy top especially those dusty, questionable joists support the whole dang house. Ugh, damn it all. The pale loner tread lightly and swiftly bouncing over to each obstacle dashing faster once feeling a soft spots on the old, creaky wood and reached out to the exposed crack. "Almost there," his voice strained, reaching up to place a bit of mud on it. Almost..almosttt. But it all crashed down. Literally. The wood couldn't handle a little weight and crumbled under his paws , he screeched loudly hitting into one of the beams before thudding to the ground. Casper laid motionless for a moment before shaking his head, staggering up again. A loud, long groan belted out from him echoing through the household with a soft cuss to himself. Ack, should've known that would happen. Stepping forward the pain jolted from his side again releasing another haunting groan.

Rook
__________

Hearing a strangled screech rang out from the house, Rook echoed with his own cry of bewilderment and terror. The small tom practically tripped over himself as he scrambled back down the pathway by a few tail lengths. Breathing heavily, golden eyes scanned the area for any apparent source of the sound but found no difference in the surroundings. He flinched, ears flat against his head, when two haunting moans emerged from the building.

Every second spent in the overgrown yard felt like an eternity as Rook stared up at the old, weather-beaten structure, debating fleeing this place. The air already held a chill but the area seemed to radiate cold, sending a shiver down his spine. He wasn't one to believe in ghost stories but it seemed entirely possible that this local legend held a bit of truth. And yet, he shook his head and took a few steps up the pathway once more, followed by a couple more. It wasn't long before he stood on the front stoop.

'A kittypet once told me,' he thought,'That that these old twolegs houses start groaning when they get old.'

'But can houses screech?' He quickly pushed the thought out of his mind. He didn't want to think too hard about it. The door sat slightly ajar and he peered in cautiously, prepared to bolt if need be.

[thank you for the bump! a tad rushed , my brain is running on nothing oof]

"Fiddle sticks," he grumbled under his breath. A few limps he checked his body for any injuries and walked off the pain on his side. Humiliating for a cat to not land on his paws! That should've been a natural instinct- something in his blood. But nope! Just a hard thud to the ground. Luckily no cat was around to see that, especially that rude old pixie tom- Ha!, he would've had a kick out of that and never let it rest until he's buried six feet under. "I guess a little hole won't be such a big deal," talking to himself, reassuring as he stared up at the tiny opening, "Hm, yes. Anyways, spring is just around the corner." Casper sat down, thinking momentarily with his eyes shut trying to list his today duties. Even though it's been done the same way every.single.day. Literally. Okay, closed the holes, collected some herbs, flowers, ..what am I missing again? Oh! Some food, yes.
Trotting, high step on his paws happily with a humming tune echoing down the dusty, creeking wood hall he went down the stairs where a shabby door shuttered from the rough breeze. Poor door was barely holding on to whatever is attaching it to the house. But, that's another worry for another time.
Before he could step out, a cat appeared in front of him! "Wh-," first glance he knew it wasn't Mastoff- and that's what frightened the poor white rogue. Scrambling back, grey eyes wide he stuttered. "P-Please..don't hurt me!"

Rook
__________

Coming face to face with a fluffy white feline was the last thing Rook expected as he peered around the door into the front hallway. Some old twoleg things, overgrown vines maybe. Certainly not a cat. Already sufficiently freaked out, the tom took a second and merely stood there and stared back, his brain reaching the point of disconnect and disbelief that the immediate response was not to flee. The fact that this rogue seemed just as frightened of him did not seem to register with Rook and, after trying to blink away the ghost in front of him and subsequently failing, he let out a deep sigh,"I do believe I have either gone insane or there is a real, bonafide ghost standing here in front of me," he meowed, to nobody in particular,"In either case, my day certainly can't get any more interesting than this."

Even with ears unwittingly flattened against his head and fur standing on end, Rook wasn't a particularly intimidating figure. Only 9 moons of age, he still had growing to do, even if he did tend to hold himself with the dignity of somecat much older. Shaking out his pelt, he plopped himself down into a sitting position and continued to stare back and try to comprehend the feline across the way,"Can you answer that for me?" he asked, voice shaking ever so slightly as it does after a rush of adrenaline,"Am I insane or are you a ghost?"

[ @vermin I dont know how coherent this is right about now put im posting it anyway pfft]
