Is Firestar a Mary Sue?

Hey, so I just wanted to start this random discussion because why not!

Personally, while I do think Firestar is the generic "good-guy" and was a bit too overstated in the books, I don't consider him him a Mary Sue. But I'd like to see what everyone else thinks!

(Remember, be respectful of others' opinions, even if they differ from yours. This is just for fun!)

Personally, I don't consider Firestar a Mary Sue... Despite how the books generally portray him, the first arc was largely focused on him working up through the ranks, having to earn respect solely due to his kittypet past. This whole narrative gave his character something to build off of, which also included flaws in his character. (Many of which he overcame, to be fair.)

If there's any character I would consider a Mary Sue, it would probably be Spottedleaf.

Exactly! I couldn't put it better myself, honestly.

And yeah, Spottedleaf is definitely a Mary Sue in my opinion.

 Not sure if I agree, but it’s not wrong!

I don't think Firestar is a Mary Sue. What I DO think is that they completely messed him up after the first series.

And as for Spottedleaf being a Mary Sue, I guess I'd agree with that, but (unpopular opinion coming) I'm honestly fine with her.

However, AUs like Yandere Spottedleaf and Evil Spottedleaf kinda show what the Erins missed out on when they had her die so young and lose the cat who she felt a connection with (Firestar).

Okay, let's keep this conversation about Firestar and not Spottedleaf, lol.

I agree with your take on Spottedleaf. To me she's just kind of eh, I don't really like her but I don't hate her like a lot of people in the fandom. She's just bland in my opinion; the AUs people have made with her really do show how much wasted potential she could have had, and it's honestly disappointing that the Erins just killed her off almost prematurely. Even if they didn't make her evil, they could have at least given her more depth, if you get what I mean.

Anyway, yes, back to Firestar haha! I also agree that they kind of messed him up in the series following his arc. One of the things I would have liked to see more of is his relationships with Sandstorm and his children/family. Again, kind of wasted potential. And I have mixed feelings about including him in the Power of Three prophecy, or whatever that prophecy was in the end haha. On the one hand I liked to see his character being "active" again, but the way they handled it was a bit weird.

Sorry, kind of rambled there!

Yeah, he didn’t fit in the three well, besides, how is he his own kin?
I think the way they just reused Firestar, like they couldn’t come up with something new was kinda boring.

And my hamster thinks Firestar sucks, but I think he’s just jealous.
He gets like that.

Spottedleaf had... Barely any character development. She was basically there for us to be sad about when she died.

Yeah, just always acting perfect, They could’ve at least given her a flaw or two! Something to grow on!

Yeah! It's honestly not that hard to write flaws in a character. Writing characters with no flaws whatsoever is so boring.
