No Time To Lose [ Training Event - Warriors & Apprentices ]

Event [#event]

“Warriors and apprentices of RiverClan!
Please, gather here and listen to me!”

➣ Snowleap did the best he could to make sure he spoke loud enough to be heard through the entire camp, but there wasn’t much that he could do about the evident nervousness in his tone. Regardless, he tried to sound stern and serious, all while trying to show a certain amount of eagerness to make sure this wasn’t taken lightly. It hadn’t been long at all since the last Gathering had taken place and the RiverClan deputy, for the moment, was done with moping around and feeling sorry for himself. Once cats finally would start to gather around him, the dark oriental would begin to explain this matter further, holding his head high and remaining strong for his clan. He had made enough mistakes and strived to right these wrongs before something more terrible occurred. May StarClan see that he was trying to fix this sin of his own making. He would keep on trying over and over again.

“I have no doubt that all of you are aware of our situation with ThunderClan.” He meowed, a short sigh leaving his parted jaws before continuing, “The loss of Loonpaw, Marigoldpaw, Mistypaw and even Swankit was a devastating blow to our clan when we fought for Firefly Cove awhile ago. After ThunderClan has, unfortunately, discovered that we are holding Cinderpaw at the last Gathering, I would not be surprised if there was another battle soon on our horizon.” It was blunt and to the point. Snowleap had no means to lie to his clanmates, nor hold any information from them. “I was a coward at that Gathering and I wish to try to make amends for that misdeed by helping RiverClan prepare for the future. I will not have a repeat of the Cove battle and have more young lives be lost. That being said, I ask for the experienced warriors of RiverClan to help me train our apprentices and prepare them for a fight. I want us to all come together and train as a clan. We must become stronger. We must not become savages either. Remember this, RiverClan. We fight to survive, not to kill unnecessarily.” Hopefully, everyone could agree on this matter.

The tip of his tail twitched back and forth impatiently as he wondered how to handle this. Snowleap had never done something like this before, only training his own two apprentices how to fight. “We, as a group, will go through important fighting moves and practice them until we all have an understanding. Apprentices, do not hesitate to ask either I, your mentors or another warrior for help if you need it. We are a family and we need to support one another as one. We’re all in this together and we must not forget that.” Once everyone had come forth to participate and had listened to what the deputy had in mind, then he would lead them all to the Training Island. He did not wish to crowd the camp and possibly endanger kittens who were out playing while they all trained together. "Now, who's with me?"

Fawnpaw
Ever since the gathering, Fawnpaw had been wading through what felt like thick fog. Her mind was jumbled, thoughts incoherent as they passed through like ghosts in her head. A dullness was present in her gaze, one that she had fought to shake off. The eerie darkness that had crept up and almost swallowed her whole had it not been for Wormbite remained a thought at the back of her head. It had been absolutely terrifying, shocking her down to her core and stunning her into an uncharacteristic silence.

But still the call of Snowleap rang through the crowd and upon heavy paws came Fawnpaw. Her ears were back just a little as she took a seat, exhaustion from not sleeping to save herself from the nightmares present in her posture. She looked up to the deputy, unable to bring herself to speak a single word. If she'd had the energy, she would argue to return Cinderpaw now. To give her back to the Clan that most likely had grieved her loss. Her family.

She had no energy left though, so silent she sat with her tail wrapped around her paws. She would join in - if only to have it serve as a distraction from the coldness she felt settling into her heart.

Littlepaw, after hearing Snowleap begin to speak, padded over to listen closely. If there is a battle, I'd probably have to fight... she glanced worriedly at Vinewatcher. I haven't been taught how to fight yet... will this event give me enough practice? Sighing, the small apprentice looked up. I'll try my hardest!

➵ [ Shadepaw | she/her ]

Shadepaw felt her claws dig into the ground at the mention of the previous war that took place. So many lives were lost at Firefly Cove, and she wanted to help prevent a tragedy like that happening again. "I'll stand with you!" she yelled out. It was about time she got better at fighting, especially if there were to be another war about to break loose.

Feeling a sudden coldness wave through her, she shivered. Fear, anxiety and worry washed over her brain, not wanting to imagine what may happen next. If there were to be another war, then she will be there to fight for her Clan.

A loud voice rang out over the camp, and Flamesong looked up from the branch she had been inspecting in the den wall to focus on Snowleap instead. Was something going on? Another fight? Well, luckily not, instead it was... some kind fo speech? The lean Toyger left the den alone and with slow strides moved towards the deputy, a hard lump forming in her throat as the names of the three young dead cats. And if she didn't remember totally wrong Mistypaw was dead too. Three apprentices... and a kit... A kit. A HECKING KIT.

She had to take a deep breath on that one as Snowleap went on. She did have a certain feeling about holding Cinderpaw as a prisoner. And that feeling wasn't positive. She didn't like it, not one bit. It wasn't how these things should work, they should fight their fights and maybe talk things out, but not take prisoners in this way. She was a little surprised when Snowleap admitted he didn't think he had been brave enough. She wasn't too great at admitting her weaknesses herself.

After that, they finally got to hear what this event was about. Experienced warriors. Hmm, yeah, she had enough of that to at least train others, and her fighting skills were top-notch, so if she could be of use she was happy to help. Snowleap spoke of them, Riverclan, as a family, and while she kept her face straight she could feel a little warm tingle in her chest. She wished she could feel as close to others as they seemed to, to form as deep connections, but she had always been pretty bad at social stuff, so that was a wish she likely wouldn't reach. Anyway, training, yes, training. The Toyger took a step forward and straightened up.

Lilycreek thrashed her tail. "Whatever it takes," she meowed, nodding. Snowleap was.... respectable enough. He was new, she had to reminder herself, and that he would learn how to best capture a crowd. But even as she was patient, she couldn't help but notice a glimmer of fear in his eyes. He pulled himself together, courage drawn on his face.

Her mother's words rang in her mind. You only needed courage in battle because of poor planning.

Hm.

Perhaps he was scared of battle? Of what happened at the Cove? She shook her head to clear away the thoughts.

"I already have Marshpaw and Sedgepaw, but I'm more than willing to take another one or two." She added. Now was not the time to scorn.

It wasn’t at all surprising where the ginger warrior lay, chin resting on crossed paws as he feigned napping since the clearing was being too loud again as usual. Rhythmically the tip of the tom’s tail softly tapped the dusty ground below him, betraying a deep process of thought despite the lacklustre appearance he had.

The warrior’s eyes cracked open when an almost unexpected voice called for the clan’s attention. Snowleap. It took one glance at the tom to know this wasn’t for some patrol, or not the usual ones at least. Skystar wasn’t missing, was he? No. He’d be more nervous, probably. And he himself would likely know. Despite the specific instructions, Gingerfrost remained in place, tail slowing to halt as dark green eyes watched the RiverClan deputy.

Hm. Interesting. He wasn’t very familiar with Snowleap, and he mostly flew under the lazy tom’s radar save for some unusual… thing he apparently said at the gathering. Hadn’t sat well with him, but simultaneously more important things occupied his mind until now. So hearing what he had to say on it, however briefly, Gingerfrost mainly took note of what came after. Or put differently, the announcement was of enough interest for him to actively listen to it – for the most part. The deputy wasn’t speaking nonsense, however, and that was a big part of why Gingerfrost kept listening.

He blinked slowly, briefly turning the main points over in his mind. It wasn’t a bad idea. Lifting his head, the tom’s eyes flickered over to the leaders den. He watched it for a second, deciding and almost wanting see if Skystar would join them. Despite everything, if the leader was still half the warrior he used to be, he’d be a good asset in training any apprentices. But not seeing the golden tom emerge from anywhere yet. Disappointing. He realised he might be busy, but he ought to get involved. Things weren’t going well.

‘Now, who’s with me’
The words called Gingerfrost back to the matter at paw. Some cats had already gathered, clearly, and it took surprisingly little time for the ginger warrior to pull himself up to his paws and walk over as well– a slight seriousness covering his normally grumpy and lazy expression. He was perhaps a bit younger (and less continuously active) than what was usually considered an ‘experienced warrior’, but never was the tom doubtful of what he knew he knew. The label fit enough – despite what others could think. They do them, he does him.

Briefly fixing his gaze on Snowleap’s, the warrior gave a faint – but clear enough – nod. In this case, and many others, it spoke more than words.
