The sudden swipe against his one steady foot caused him to fall to the ground beside his apprentice. Smart. Finchpaw may not have followed directions, but it was a clever move, so he supposed he'd let it slide. Recovering quickly before the apprentice thought he could get away with more, the deputy thought up a final attack. He'd already gone in from both the side and the front, so he'd come down from above this time. Finchpaw might get a bit squished beneath his weight if the move landed, but it would be a sort of payback for catching him off guard with the counterattack earlier.

Standing back up, the dark tabby started walking. But he didn't go straight in for the move and instead started to slowly circle around the apprentice. He wanted to see how Finchpaw would react if he went down a more... suspenseful route. The panic he'd sensed earlier remained fresh in his mind, and he wanted to test if something similar would happen again under a different scenario. After a couple of laps of creeping around and staring down the younger tom, he thrust forward suddenly, springing up higher than usual in an attempt to land on the apprentice's back.

Getting up to his paws Finchpaw smirked as he saw his own mentor hit the ground. His move had worked! The tom scrambled to his paws and crouched in front of the deputy eyeing him as the larger tom had begun circling him.

He didn’t like that tactic, it made him bristle. On one hand he wanted to confidently watch the warrior, without jumping to his sides like a frightened kit. On the other he knew that he shouldn’t let his mentor leave his vision, even for a split second.

Just as the bigger tom was rearing back towards him Finchpaw saw Finchwhisker pick up speed. His initial move was to dart to the side but, to his surprise, Finchwhisker leaped and came for him from above. Finchpaw was unprepared and his options swam rapidly through his mind as Finchwhiskers paws came barreling at him. In his limited response time the tom simply dropped to the ground and tried to roll away but his mentors paws landed around him, trapping him underneath Finchwhisker. Trapped beneath his mentor with weight pressing down on him, he let out a hiss as he tried his best to swirl around and place his paws on the older toms stomach in an attempt to push him off. His attempt wasn’t going to well.
