He felt the slow rise and fall of Goldenstep's breathing asleep beside him. A warmth spread through him but it only deepened the uneasy feeling he had. He touched his nose to her flank softly then rose to his paws carefully, picking his way silently to the exit.
He decided to go for a hunt before the dawn patrol was assigned. He let his mind clear and the unease slowly dissipated. He snatched a vole and a large frog not far from camp and hurried back through the camp entrance. He dropped his freshkill on the pile but then, reluctantly, Batsong and the kits came to mind. He rolled his eyes and picked the vole back up. He trotted across the camp. The sun was barely beginning to touch the sky. He was unsure if Batsong would be awake but Goldenstep was still likely to be sleeping so this may be his best opportunity. He slipped into the nursery entrance, quietly avoiding waking the other queens, and dropped the vole at the edge of Batsong's nest.

Batsong's ear flicks and he looks up groggily. Blinking, he looked at Elmshadow in surprise. If he was honest, he expected the tom to just deny helping Batsong but then again, it was probably to save his own dignity. Sitting up, the black tom made sure to tuck the kits into his fur and the pulled the vole closer. It was yet too early for Batsong to be able to give the kits to a queen to feed so he'll have try and wait. Looking at the tom again, he tilts his head.
"I'm surprised you actually came by. Though I assume you wouldn't stick long, of course."

Waking up from the sudden movements around her, Dovekit began mewling softly and wiggled around. She wasn't hungry yet but that would probably change in a few moments. She clambered on top of her sleeping sister to attempt to wiggle her way around. She wasn't very big but she was already ready to make her way out of the nest.
