Raypaw settled in as Lavendersnap started her story. He listened as she talked about Nestfeather staying behind for the Gathering. He knew what that was like, he wasn't able to go to the most recent Gathering. When he heard she had gotten attacked, he let out a gasp. Weren't the Clans under a truce during the Gathering? How could those stinky-smelling fish-brains attack the Windclan camp! He kneaded his paws on the hard ground as he listened in excitement. He tried to picture the warrior, Nestfeather, as she slashed and clawed at the enemies. Wow he wanted to be just like that! With the strength of Lionclan in his paws!

"Woah. That. Was. AWESOME!" He breathed in amazement. "Wow Neststar was so cool. I wish I could have met her. Or better yet, I wish I could be like her! Fighting off an entire clan with just my teeth and claws! I bet she got some cool scars." He play-slashed at the air, his tail whipping back and forth. "How does a cat get so much strength like that? There has to be some sort of special training routine, right? I want to learn it so I can be the strongest in battles!" If only there actually were any battles. He knew tensions were high in Windclan, but it seemed all the good battles always happened a long time ago.

Raypaw had the best reactions! He gasped and got excited at just the right parts. She adored telling stories to cats like him! A glow of appreciation filled her chest. A soft purr rumbled in her throat. Nothing could make her happier!

“A wise warrior avoids needless battle. As for getting stronger I’m not sure if there’s a special routine. But you should listen to your mentor, and always accept help from warriors you respect.” The old molly punctuated the first sentence by flicking his ears playfully with her tail. A wide smile crossed her face. She was overjoyed to see how much Raypaw had liked her story. He may be a little overeager to prove himself, but what apprentice isn’t? For now she just enjoyed his almost kit-like excitement.
