Cobwebpaw swallowed nervously. On his own? Right. He could do that, he would be fine. Great Starclan, he was ridiculous. They were voles. He gave a quick shake of his head and padded back over to the wall, pressing his ear against it. He could definitely hear some scratching still - perhaps a bit more frantic as the other voles began picking up on what happened - but he wanted to be sure he was right on top of them before he started digging.

The tom slowly began padding forward, listening carefully. Louder... louder... softer. He backpedaled a few steps. Louder. Yes, this was a hotspot. He turned to survey the wall, then reared up onto his haunches, scraping at the dirt. He remembered Crowtooth's technique of stamping down the dirt he clawed up, and attempted to imitate it with.. varied success. And then the wall opened up, and two voles were there!

One immediately tumbled out, scrambling down the tunnels. Cobwebpaw's first instinct was to lunge after it, but then paused. He needed to think rationally. This wasn't the same as hunting above-ground, where you chased anything that moved. He needed to be smart. He whirled back around to the other rodent, who was still sitting in the walls, evidently shocked that it had been uncovered. He quickly snagged it with a forepaw and slammed it into the ground, killing it. He glanced over his shoulder towards the other trainees, wondering how they were getting along. Did they have a different tactic? Did they manage to catch more voles? It certainly wouldn't hurt to watch them and see if he could pick up another thing or two.
