Re: WindClan Nursery
- Driftkit -
The little tom had ignored Ashkit’s [ @AshCloud67 ] many attempts to have a conversation with him, like I’d ever talk to a mother stealer. so instead to keep himself busy and unapproachable he decided that he would attempt to walk, that way he could meet Twilightstar and FallowNose and Cowpaw sooner than his siblings.
Sure, last time he tried to walk it didn’t go well, he had slipped and fallen onto a sharp twig, and his mother FireFlame [ @spirit free ] had to help him back up, but that time he hadn’t focused on his balance. So this time the little black and white kit had a bit of a plan on how he would teach himself to walk. First step: stand, second step: put one foot forward, thrid step: put other foot forwards and make sure to check balance, forth step: don’t die of embarrassment if you fall, fifth step: walk. Dumb right? I mean walking seemed so simple he only really needed a simple plan.
It’s now or never.. Driftkit thought as he started to enact step one: stand. He slowly stood up onto his white paws, somewhat wobbly, as expected, and made sure to keep his balance in check until he was steady. Okay! Great! step two: put first foot forwards. He lifted one of his paws gingerly, placing it down not too far away from him other foot, and shifting a small bit of his weight onto it. Step three: move other foot forwards. This is we’re he messed up last time- well- not with the moving foot part, but with the balancing part. He lifted his other foreleg, shifting all of his weight between his hind legs and his already placed front leg, slowly putting it down slightly in front of his other paw, applying weight to it, before moving his hind legs slowly after them, realising he should have moved them before. Okay! One step done! Now rinse and repeat. he put his paw forwards again, now feeling confident- too confident.
Over confidence can be helpful in some situations, like when trying to scare an enemy out of a battle- but in Driftkit’s case showing off to your litter mates and foster sister was not a situation that being over confident would help him. Especially since he was trying to do something he wasn’t good at and had never done before successfully.
Fear washed over him as he realised that his leg wasn’t taking any of the weight he was trying to put on it, and he collapsed to the ground in a heartbeat.
