Rabbitkit picked up the toy in his maw and padded over to his mother. The scent of fresh-kill was strong despite the moss blocking his scent glands. His stomach growled loudly in response.
Rabbitkit took another glance at Emberkit, setting the mossball on the ground beside him as he waited for her to join them. Crouching down Rabbitkit nosed gently at the creature. He began picking away at the flesh with his teeth instinctually. Eventually he got a good sized bite out of it.
Tastes and smells of the moorland washed over his tongue and filled his senses. He thought he could feel the rush of the hunt as if the blood of every warrior ancestor before him was coursing through his veins. Eyes closed, enjoying the taste, his imagination went wild. Muscles bunched up to stalk, paws smacking the soft earth and wind blowing through fur in chase. It all felt so real to him as if he'd been doing it for seasons despite having never hunted before in his life, let alone left the safety of the camp.
He opened his eyes and looked up at his mother, an obvious twinkle in his golden gaze. Without another word he continued taking chunks out of the prey relentlessly. Each bite was nearly as good as the last, but none felt quite the same as the very first. Forgetting he'd needed to share with Emberkit Rabbitkit stopped ubruptly. He'd nearly finished half of the vole. It took all of his self restraint to turn his head away and push the vole towards the she-kit with one paw, licking his chops to savor the taste.
