THE LAND
Set loosely the 1960's, the clans live on a small Mediterranean peninsula somewhere between Italy and Greece. To the north is Torrentclan's territory, rocky and harsh cliffs covered in the crumbling ruins of an old roman city. To the south lays Shoalclan's territory, sandy and pebbled beaches edged with soft tufted grasses. And west of them is Coastclan's territory, a maritime forest of olive trees and winding hills. In the centre of it all is the lagoon, home to the small town of Augusta Emerita, which is full of local strays and housecats.
Just past the tip of the peninsula is the rocky island of Highwater, which is connected to the rest of the peninsula at low tide by a narrow land bridge. Here, on the new moon, the clans gather to discuss the events of the past month, talk with their friends outside their clan, and give thanks to the Dias for their successes and continued success. Beneath Highwater is a network of caves filled with airpockets that lead to the Deep Pool, where the cats travel to commune with their ancestors who rest within the depths.
The RELIGION
The cat's of the clans are blessed by their ancestors, as well as the three Dias - The three great spirits that govern their world. The first is Moira, the mother, described as a massive pure black she-cat with blind eyes who governs life and death. She determines who is brought to rest in The Deep alongside her, and who is banished forever into The Stones, never to reach peace or contentment.
The second is Veritas, the sister, described as a tall and lanky blue-grey cat with two different colored eyes who governs fate and justice. She is the one who guides the leaders, and gives them their 9 lives, as well as giving out prophecies when they're needed.
The last is Fortuna, the daughter, described as a small white cat with golden eyes who governs health and fortune. She oversees the day-to-day lives of the clan members, protecting and maintaining the clans as well as sometimes giving cats blessings when hunting or in battles.
There's also a group of more minor spirits known as the Dimina (by the clans) or the Coltivas (by the rogues and loners), who live within and protect the plants and waters of the world and must be thanked when plants are harvested or water is drunk, lest they become angry and harm you.
