The young tom cocked his head, briefly curious as the apprentice turned away from him but quickly picked up the mouse scent Juniperpaw had clearly already locked onto. He sat down and waited silently, watching the young cat move very similarly to his previous attempt until there was a pause in the crouch then he pounced. Blackfir held his breath but felt instantly better about this pounce than the first and the effort was rewarded. The unsuspecting mouse was trapped beneath Juniperpaw’s weight. Blackfir smiled and shook his head as he padded up to his apprentice.
”Generally you want to keep your eyes open when looking to catch prey but way to go.” He chuckled as he added,
”im sure the rest of the forest is also proud.” He swiped a gentle, playful paw at Juniperpaw’s ear before turning away, back towards his own catches.
”Come on, that should be good for now anyway.” Blackfir knew the importance of ending on a good note and it made it all the easier that they’d collectively brought in a good enough haul with three pieces of prey between them. Unburying his thrush and squirrel, Blackfir led the way back towards camp.
