Shadowfur wasn’t the least bit surprised when a Clan meeting was called. Of course Dawnstar would want to address the lack of their deputy at the Gathering as soon as possible.

What did surprise him was the sight of Cinderblaze’s dead body lying in the clearing. Shadowfur felt some of his respect for the deputy return. At least he had a good reason for missing the Gathering.

Dawnstar still seemed intensely angry, which didn’t surprise the black tom. He did note, however, that lately she seemed more unstable than usual. He hoped she’d keep it together through leaf-bare. The Clan had always been able to trust her leadership, and Shadowfur wanted that to continue.
