He was not convinced at all, maybe the woman was a shapeshifter? He lowered the pipe in case, but when she talked about Splitside, he decided to ask a trap-question, he talked, with a muffled voice,
"If you know Splitside, why isn't she with you?" to show he needed a good response, he pulled out his gas grenade...
