He cocked his head, listening closely as the kits shouted out their answers excitedly. It filled him with hope watching these three kits seem to take a keen interest in all of this, though their excitement was one of the reasons he always adored kits. They seemed to find the joy in everything. Though it seemed his thrill in the warrior code was not always common among all the kits so this was a nice sight to see. He smiled at their simple answers but nodded. "Good, good. Glowkit, you say, 'and more'. I'd say all the answers are correct but yours brings me to the rest." He let his amber gaze wander over all the kits before continuing, "The Warrior Code does keep us safe, but how does it keep us safe? It goes so much deeper than protecting us, it establishes our way of life and it protects all of the clans. We are responsible for our own safety but the Warrior Code makes it so at the very least there will always be four clans." He looked up at the light coming in through the den entrance as though in thought, "It was created many, many moons ago by the very first leaders, ancient cats who are now in Starclan watching over us all. They created it so we could live peacefully and with purpose."

He moved aside and used a claw to draw lines in the soft dirt. As he worked, his eyes down on the ground, he meowed, "I'll break this into three parts so you can ask any questions. The first five codes are, one, you must defend your clan at any cost. A warrior's priority must be to their clan." A flash of tortie pelt in his mind's eye nearly caught his breath and a flood of guilt pressed into his chest, he cleared his throat to add, "You are allowed to have friends outside of the clan but that friendship must never come before your clan." He rolled his shoulder slightly before continuing, "Two, respect the boundaries. We are permitted border scuffles because it is against the Warrior Code to be hunting or trespassing on another clan's territory. That is why you must defend our borders against anybody who is not Thunderclan. Three, elders and kits eat first. Apprentices should not eat until they've ensured the elders have been hunted for and fed. Four, do not kill prey for the fun of it. It is not a game. Prey is to be killed to be eaten, nothing more. Wastefulness is a mockery of Starclan and everything they offer us. And five, kits must be six moons old before they can become apprentices. Do you have any questions so far?" He was still rattled after voicing the very first point aloud, one he's contended with himself for so many moons, but reciting the others had begun to ease his tensions and put him back into the ease he was used to feeling around kits and the Warrior Code.

Glowkit was literally shaking with excitement. "How does it work!? What are the great things about this!? Oh, I'm so happy I can't stand still!" She danced around.
