The tiny calico wriggled around, confused. Where had her mother gone? She felt overwhelmed; too many weird, new smells, and definitely way too loud. Her brother's cry was slightly reassuring, reminding her that she wasn't alone. She continued to squirm, looking for her mother.

Who were these cats, talking loudly around her and her siblings? They were not her mother, and that was the only cat she wanted right now. She was hungry, and though being squished next to her siblings provided some warmth, she was cold. She let out a cry, reminding the others that she was there, in case they had forgotten, and she was hungry! However this didn't seem to do much. She buried her face in the fur of her sibling.
