Acornkit sat and looked at the red berry. She thought of plans to do with this berry. Would she eat it? Would she throw it? Would she convince another kit to eat it? The possibilities where endless. She kept thinking of ways to use this berry. She looked at the prey pile. And she looked at the berry. She looked at a mouse, she looked over at the berry.

Sundust has been in the clearing sunning, half dozing as he watched the clan wind down. A couple of apprentices training, a kit with a deathberry, some queens gossiping… wait a second. The medicine cat did a double take, eyes widening with alarm. A kit with a deathberry?? Good stars, where did she even find it? He didn’t even keep those in his den.

Spurred by his shock, Sundust was across the clearing in a second. “Acornkit, drop that berry right now please. This is very important.” He kept his voice firm, but not alarming. He didn’t want to frighten the kit lest she accidentally swallowed it.
