The gentle and lithe queen was no longer one of these things; she was awkward and lumbering, having never gotten used to the whole "pregnancy walk" thing. Dappledleaf had finally made it to her nest, flanks heaving as she breathed. Ah. It was time for kits, it seemed. She groaned and hissed in pain before everything started.

Dappledleaf, finally finished with her kitting, had five little furballs wriggling against her belly. There was a chimera, whom she named Sunflowerkit. A little tom that looked exactly like herself; she named her son Poppykit. Then, one of her kits - a lilac, cream and red calico - was born without a front leg. She started fussing with her daughter, sniffing and poking to see if there was anything else wrong. When she couldn't find anything wrong, she named this one Juniperkit. Her next daughter was grey with flame points. This was Ruekit. Looking at Ruekit sent a pang of grief through her heart; she looked so much like her missing sister, Birchpaw. Her final child, a little brown and marbled tabby, was to be named Mushroomkit.

With names settled, she touched her nose to each of her kits before whispering their names to them.

"Sunflowerkit."

Four daughters, one son. With that settled, the queen peeked outside the nursery before softly calling for the rest of her family. "Foxcall, Daypaw, Larkfire. Come on in."
