As soon as Sootfur peeked out of the warriors' den and noticed what Crowpaw was looking at, he knew instantly what was happening. But never would he have imagined whose kit's was that, laying unmoving on the ground with their fur still fluffed up...

The gray tabby run immediately up to his apprentice and a look of horror appeared on his face as he eyed the little body on the ground.
"Crowpaw... Is that... Dovefluff's..?" He tried to ask him, too shocked to speak thoroughly.

Oh, Dovefluff... You didn't deserve this, no...

The warrior approached slowly the weeping queen and brushed his fur with hers, offering a bit of warmth and closeness as the little comfort he could give now. He touched her head with his nose and stayed still for a few seconds, aware that now too many cats were gathering around and it was becoming too crowded. He gave a hard stare at those more curious than in grief, and turned on the miserable queen again.

"Oh, Dovefluff... I'm so sorry..." He whispered gently in her ear.
