A gentle hum rumbled in her chest as she listened to Mudhound’s words–she could understand where they were coming from, on some level. It’s not like she had any siblings, but she was the clan’s medicine cat, and Bumblestar was their leader. Standing against her or disagreeing with her decisions sounded.. Daunting.
The weight on her back hadn’t been expected, so a quiet ‘
huff!’ escaped her initially, but she quickly stabilized herself, providing an effective headrest for the warrior.
“We’ll protect them, don’t you worry.” She nudged at her companion’s shoulder, giving them a reassuring nuzzle before she groomed the fur there, making sure that it laid flat and wasn’t sticking up in odd directions.
Ordinary news, for a while. They had lost another Hornet, and had gained a new one–
Sharpclaw! Against all odds, Drizzlecloud held a sense of warmth towards the young warrior. He was a promising young tom–obviously, given his new title. Even if he was a stick in the mud sometimes, she was fond of him. She’d have to go and give him a few personal words of congratulations once the meeting was over.
Next came the news that she had been wanting to hear. Cracklepaw’s punishment–er,
Cracklekit, now. She supposed that he could be under the watchful eye of his sister, now. Assuming that he’d be staying in the nursery with her… And any other punishments over the next moon were going to be taken care of by Spiderthroat.
Drizzlecloud sighed. A big ol’ sigh.
“Well…” She slowly turned to Mudhound, looking conflicted.
“We keep an eye on apprentices–and kits. Remember what I told you in my den. If any of them wish to sleep in the warrior’s den but someone gives you a hard time, they can sleep safely in my den.” She paused, flicking her tail. She supposed that Cracklekit’s punishment was… Fair. He had no more chances after this one–he’d be given the boot if he crossed any lines ever again.
“Only time will tell what will happen… What will happen to him, at least.”
