It was one of those rare days for him, in which he was thoroughly focused in everything around him. The reason was very particular. Turned out Fudge was starving... and there was nothing but two fish in the prey pile. Fish. His nose wrinkled at the thought. He wanted something tasty, thank you very much. A nice mouse or two. Maybe even a squirrel. Unfortunately, The Boulder was nowhere in sight, and with them being the only feline the apprentice was in talking terms with, his options to go hunting were severely limited for now. Ugh... to be trapped by such a petty rule as not being able to go out for sustenance. Every day the star worshipers confused him further and further. You'd think having been with them for so long would have made the madness begin to make sense, but maybe it was just too senseless for time to bridge the gap between his understanding of the world and theirs.

Dark ears perked as he heard a kit speak. Asking some older cat - a warrior, he would assume - for a story. Despite his deadpanned expression, the chocolate point felt his brow quirk in mild curiosity. Had he not just been pondering on how completely lacking in understanding he was when it came to these cats? Surely... listening to a small tale would help. Provide a small glimpse into what thought processes led to their decisions. To the endless violence that surrounded them despite their so called call for loyalty, friendship, and comradery. They were so often at odds between what they preached and how they acted. Maybe the stories they told kits explained these seemingly nonsensical actions better?

Fudge listened to the story with mild interest, laying down as he kept his eyes upon the prey pile while the warrior regaled the kit with an admittedly informative tale. One that... if anything made the clans seem much more pathetic than he'd first thought. And most certainly made him wonder how any cat in the city could possibly think of this place as a peaceful, boring haven. It made things clear on one part, however. Violence had always been a part of these cats. Much as they liked to paint themselves as superior to the cats from outside the clans, they were no better than any outsider. A mere band of cats who had started their history by turning on one another and forming smaller bands - because obviously that would somehow help - that would go on to causing more and more blood shedding atrocities.

He didn't understand when the star worshiping had begun. Nor why the cats thought that forming four groups that would eternally fight and kill each other would be better than a single group that would eternally fight and kill each other. It seemed... pointless. Like if maybe cats were not built for this. If there was nothing but death and disappointment surrounding cats who lived together, maybe living on your own was for the best. Unless... these cats were all simply using each other. Appreciating the body shields that would potentially enable a longer life for themselves. Considering how often Angry killed her own, it seemed unlikely, but these cats didn't make the smartest decisions in the first place.

With an internal scoff, Fudge placed his head on his paws as he considered his own future. It was clear to him that this place was dangerous. More so than the city, especially as he got older. Perhaps it was time he begun considering where he saw himself in the future. It would hurt more than he cared to admit to abandon The Boulder. To become the one who turned his back on his sole friend... his only family, even... but wasn't that just the way of the world? Death and disappointment surrounding you until you became a corpse or a disappointment yourself? He didn't like that view, but he was nothing if not a realist, and if even the stories told to kits were filled with nothing but betrayal, what possible hope could there be of happiness being anything more than a fool's dream?

| Feel free to skip Sprucepaw going forward, as he's listening, but unless he's actively noticed he will not be joining the group! Had to debate on how to have him be a part of the story and realized this was unfortunately the only way with how much of a social butterfly he is. |
