Default Tempestclan (resources)

Summer seas and salty breeze,
soon gives way to chill and freeze.

The moons wrath comes in lightning and hail,
her violent storms shred even the strongest of sail.

Ships are upturned, bow to the sky,
No cat can escape her, not you and not I.

But there, in the distance, a mighty mast pierces through.
a light of hope shines bright from the decks, a light of new.

A tempest is brewing,
so, what will you do?

Welcome aboard the Tempest

From plundering to battling, behold the fearless crew of the Tempest - a band of cats as free as the winds themselves. Made up of former slaves, spirited young sailors craving glory, and seasoned ship cats, these swashbucklers fear no one. In a world wiped clean of twolegs, they explore the uncharted waters with swift swords and sharp claws. Discovering lost temples, fulfilling untold prophecies, concurring sea monsters, these are not cats to be crossed. Raise the sails, and pull the lines tight, if you have a thirst for piracy or are seeking the thrill of adventure, you may just find yourself face to face with Tempestclan.

yo! I had so much writing that it took up nearly 4 pages, so uh- figured I'd cut it down so that you wouldn't have to read as much.

Tempestclan was originally made for a book that im writing, and I'll probably still continue with it, but I figured it would be pretty cool for an alt clan.

Back in ancient times, the moon spirit turned evil and sent a great flood across the lands. It wiped out the human race, but left behind their stuff. The sun spirit locked the moon spirit away with the help of an ancient clan, the Terrapin. Cats, being ever crafty, learned how to use the boats twolegs left behind, took over abandoned towns, welded swords, and modified instruments. The great flood never truely receded, making land scarcer, oceans bigger, and sunken ruins. With more space in the water, fish and sea creatures grew to fill it, creating sea monsters. This world has spirit magic and stuff, so there are enchanted objects, and some sea monsters gain sentience/intelligence based off the souls they've consumed. More of that type of stuff will be revealed in roleplay when it becomes relevant though!

I noticed in the main clans that prophecies are scarce, and are mostly reserved just for hrs or natural disasters, which seems a bit sad to me. Prophecies were some of my favourite things about the books when I was younger, and they have such great potential for clan activity on wco, I figured I just had to try out my idea.

Pretty much, every so often the hrs will craft a prophecy, then a randomiser will be spun, picking two or more cats from Tempestclan to fulfil it. There will still be natural disasters and stuff like that, but it will be discovered by random clan cats rather than a medicine cat or leader. HRs will be on the randomiser, however they cannot be the one who crafted the prophecy, for the sake of the theme of discovery and adventure in Tempestclan!

Prophecies can lead the clan to cursed objects, or force the foretold cats to leave the clan and battle a sea monster, or explore a temple. Theres really no limit, and if you have an idea for one feel free to pm it to myself or the other hrs! (this does mean you wont be able to participate in it)

HRs
Captain: Brinestrike @Apollo.
Quartermaster:
Sailing master/star reader:

Outsider joining is open, joining as an apprentice without a mentor is open (one will be assigned if you do not have one)
While you can join as a kit you wont actually be on board unless you stow away on the ship, you may only join from another ship/clan if you are taken hostage during a battle (vm a hr!), mutiny is allowed but please have a good reason for it and gather cats to back your cause in roleplay rather than in a finder
Do not ask for a prophecy about your cat (this will lower your chances or have you removed from the randomiser)

The allegiances can be viewed [here]
(coming soon)

Roles
theres.. a lot.

Captain - The equivalent of a leader, usually, they were the previous captians quartermaster. If they are appointed as a result of a mutiny than they were likely voted in or ran the revolt. Captains can seek out nine lives from one of silverpelts many shrines, however not many are granted them. If lives are granted the captain will take on the suffix -star. These captains are seen as blessed by the sun spirit, and are often not messed with.

Quartermaster - Also known as the first mate, the quartermaster is the equivalent to a deputy. Its their job to take charge in place of the Captain if needed, and keep the crew in line. In smaller crews the quarter master can also act as the boatswain.

Sailing master/Star reader - The sailing master is in charge of making sure the ship is going where it needs to go, this does not mean that they will be on the wheel, but they are responsible for the ones who are. The sailing master can also act as the star reader, to help with navigation based off maps for their eyes and the captains alone. There used to be legends of star readers being blessed by the moon spirit in times of need, giving them extraordinary ability to navigate through storms or difficulties, however there are no records of this happening.

Boatswain - A high ranking sailor, in charge of managing the boats food supplies, general supplies, the boat itself (holes, strength of ropes, inspecting the sails), dropping the anchor, and is often well fed. The boatswain is often promoted from a sailor after the last one has retired, quit, or died. On smaller ships the quartermaster might act as the boatswain.

Ship healers - In charge of mending any holes in the ship, fixing any damage to the ships hull, creating new sleeping areas when needed, creating training weapons, mending sails, mending clothes, ect. There is usually a small team of ship healers, or sailors who know some carpentry, in case of a large amount of damage to the ship, however there is normally only one or two full time ship healers, one of which can be the ship healers apprentice. During battle ship healers will either act as powder monkeys or general fighters.

Surgeons - There is usually only one, and highly skilled surgeons are mostly stolen off other ships after a battle. Surgeons are in charge of healing the crew, they usually learn their craft on land and then are abducted off to sea. Surgeons are not underpaid for their time, they are actually treated quite well. If a ship doesn't have a surgeon usually there will be a cat or two who knows their way around a couple simple herbs.

Helmscats - The cats who steer the boat. They work closely with the Sailing master and there are often a few of them. They must study the ship and know how sharply it can turn, how deep in the water she sits, how tall the sails go and how wide the ship is to properly be able to navigate through difficult waters. Although all helmscats need to be able to get through any kind of terrain they often specialise in one or two niche kinds. Apprentices will often change mentors if they go down this path as they discover which niches they are best at navigating. The pilot is the helmscat who is stood at the front of the ship or up in the birds nest, calling out orders to the one who is steering the ship, these two are often both specialising in this niche, however if there are not two who specialise in it, the one who does will pilot and the one with the next best knowledge of it will act as the helmscat.

Gunner - The military arms of the ship, manning the cannons. There's not much more I can say about them, they have to keep up their strength to be able to resist the cannons draw back, they have to know how cannons work and how to cool them down when they're overheating. Otherwise, they usually act as normal crew members. Being a gunner can often be seen as one of the cooler jobs on the ship to younger cats as it is one of the most physically taxing. Gunners is not really a job in low demand, so even if some die or retire a ship usually has enough to go on.

Strikers - Strikers take care of fishing at sea and hunting in ports/on land, they keep the clan well fed and make sure that the Boatswain is happy with the quality of stock. Sometimes strikers will help out with cooking, however this isn't often. They will set traps for sea turtles and manatees, fish, hunt wild game, and make sure that predators such as sharks or sea monsters aren’t following the boat due to food luring them. Every cat knows how to hunt/fish and can be called on by the Strikers if they require more paws for gathering prey/hunting. A striker is a taxing job on the ship as you're pretty much hunting non-stop, however it is very rewarding as you get one of the first picks from the prey, even as an apprentice.

Crew - General crew are just warriors, they fight with swords and claws/teeth, they can hunt, they know a bit here and there from what friends have taught them, ect. Often they’re helping the other cats where they can, standing on watch, some play instruments for crew entertainment, they man the sails, and are to make sure everyone if ready for a battle at any time. If you really can't choose what you want to be as an apprentice you automatically become a general crew member.

Elders - Elders are retired crew members that still felt the call of the ocean. They still do their part, of course, they cook for the crew when fish isn't on the menu, they share their experience with the apprentices when their mentors are busy, and they still fight in battle. They are excused from normal work though, unless they want to fish with the strikers, so they'll usually play cards or do whatever they want.

Apprentices - Cats over the age of six moons learning how the ship works. They usually choose their profession at their ceremony, however some cats that are unsure might change professions a few times, which can lead to them being apprentices for much longer. They still have to learn basic skills of being on the ship (eg, cleaning, adjusting sails, general skills, etc.) but this will be taught to them by either the elders or their mentor(s). Cabin kit apprentices, while they can exist it is very rare, why someone would want to take on the role, as it would make them the lowest ranking cat on the ship?

Queens - Pregnant cats tend to stay on the ship until their pregnancy starts impacting their work, then they get dropped off at the next port and picked up again when their kits are at apprentice age. Of course, the ship will still visit them, and if the queen has a spouse they are more than welcome to stay with their mate on land.

Cabinkits - Cabin kits are not actually kits at all, they can be as old as an elder or as young as an apprentice. They are often newcomers to the boat life and don't really know what they’re doing, or cats that were spared after a battle, it is also a role given to anyone who is not doing their job properly (judged by the HRs). They are in charge of all the dirty work, getting rid of food scraps in a safe manner, tidying the dirt place, making up nests, clearing the elders of ticks, scraping barnacles off the boat, ect. You’ll usually just have one Cabin kit, but you might have more than one if some cat was demoted.

You're joining the freedom of the seas after all? Good choice, but it'll be hard work.
