Crescentkit wasn't an dumb, they were almost three moons old after all, almost... they knew that what they were doing was going to get them in trouble and it was very likely that it was going to get her apprentice ceremony pushed back at the worst of it... but at the same time. Crescent kit has been staring more and more longingly at the world outside of camp, especially at night. Wondering what the inky darkness possesses after it leaves Crescentkit's sight of understanding. They knew that it was dangerous to go out at night, but also, right now was the time to get out. They would need to do this so very carefully though, they would be getting discovered tonight, but he didn't want to be found out too early! That would make the whole trip not worth it and he needed to make this count or else Crescentkit would 100% be getting her apprentice ceremony pushed back without a doubt when it came time for her second attempt.
She needed to know. She needed to know what the singing she always hears is! If it was calling out to her through its melody of leaves whistling and underbrush rustling that the kit lays awake at night listening in wait. Wanting to see, wishing to put sights to sounds even though her eyes were more worn than others. For some reason, it felt like they were worn because they have been used before, like this wasn't the first time that Crescentkit has been a kit, that it wasn't the first time that Crescentkit had existed... and why the familiarity of the territory she stares into from inside camp, haunts him. Crescentkit needed to know, she needed to... she couldn't wait another night.
The moon was a sliver in the night sky, it was dark... she couldn't see the best. But that was for the better, her dark pelt would mold with the world around her. So that he could be a part of it like the world sings for him to be. There was something out there waiting to be found and it was going to be found by Crescentkit. So after sneaking carefully through the nursery, the kit peered into the clearing, just barely poking her head out of the den to see if there were any late night warriors or anyone out and about that may spot her. Then after seeing the space clear, the kit padded out, and stayed near the wall of the nursery until she made her way pressed against the camp's wall. Her fur was tagged by the brambles but the kit didn't mind, having long since gotten used to the feeling as she made her ways through preparing for this outing.
Crescentkit snuck from the walls of the camp beside the nursery, into the stream that ran beside the nursery. She knew the stream had to lead from in from out right? The divot from the stream would allow him to wiggle under the brambles... at least... they hopped so. That was what they were betting on, there was no way that she would be able to get out otherwise. Leaving through the main entry would be sabotaging herself basically. The stream would cover her scent being in odd places and generally her scent being around here would be fine because it was the nursery and besides, what kit has crawled through the stream, under brambles, and out of the camp like that? No one. At least no one that Crescentkit had heard of just yet.
With a deep breath of air, the kit crouched down into the water. The coldness causing a full body shiver to envelope his body. Though it would be worth it. Just a bit of coldness was worth knowing what lies beyond. It had to be, it had to be, and it had to be. The mantra persisted through his mind as he finally came up to the brambles surrounding camp and then Crescentkit ducked her head into the water. Keeping her nose above the water line just like she practiced before this night. She needed to keep calm, but this was her least favorite part. The stream splashes a bit sometimes and every time a drop lands on her nose he has to fight the urge to panic at drowning.
Now or never! The kit began their way under the brambles. Dipping into the stream as much as possible, but the top of his head and back still gets tugged at. It was fine, it wouldn't take too long to get through and then... Just a little bit longer. Crescentkit forced himself to keep his eyes open, he needed to see, even though it was nearly impossible with the low moon light and the brambles blocking out what little it that remains. The water turns and churns at their dark pelt the same that the raising nerves did to his stomach. The longer that they crawled, the water bubbling as he hissed as especially harsh tugs as the brambles threatening to drown her from above catches on her ears and back, the more they though this tunnel of dark water and dark sky would last.
Ahead of her, her nose bumped right into a thistle, and the kit bit her tongue so as to not make noise. Why was she bumping into something? Shouldn't she be squished enough into the stream to wiggle underneath the brambles? NO! Do the brambles here get into the water? No, no no! She couldn't just turn back now! She wasn't even sure if he could at this point! There was no room to turn around and moving backwards would be a even more difficult task than going forwards. And not only that but the sounds from the outside are so much louder now! She can almost taste the fresh and open air. The forest and the songs. The rustling of grasses, the breeze through the limbs of the trees, the bubbling stream... it was all right there. SHE NEEDED TO KNOW!
Crescentkit lifted a front paw awkwardly in such a tight space even for an almost three moon old... and dove it into the brambles ahead. The pain was a second thought as the feeling of panicking and risking so much for nothing overwhelmed her senses. She tore it back, the thorns were only pressing their pressure into her fur covered paw pads, not stinging, though he knew they would soon. The brambles slowly, after persisted tugging allowed just barely enough space for the kit to shuffle through and even then, they were pressing at every side trying to return to their rightful, tangled places as the camp's walls... THERE!
Crescentkit's cloudy eyes made contact with grass... the walls were opening just ahead! She was so close! Finally, with a tumble, Crescentkit finally fell from the bramble's holds on them. The kit could hardly believe it, though covered with thorns and thistles, bleeding a bit here and there, and sopping wet, Crescentkit was no longer in her camp... and now he was free to find whatever it is that has been calling them out here. Into the moonless darkness. Though first, her cloudy eyes shifted back to the brambles as they settled from her disturbance. It hadn't been too loud right? And even the minimal noise my not be questioned. At least, people wouldn't suspect it being a kit leaving right? Most kits wouldn't have taken such a path to leave.
The kit slowly clambered to their paws, wincing as she lifted one of the front ones to reveal a thorn within. Crescentkit only brought the paw to her mouth and took the thorn between her teeth and ripped it from their skin. They didn't have time to be slowed by that. Her wounds could be seen to later, when she returns back to camp. But that wouldn't be anytime soon if they could help it. Now... Crescentkit began to pad forward, slowly at first.. unsure of the new environment that he found himself in. It was just one paw step after another right? Something would guide him, right? The same thing singing to him from his nest at night. It would bring him where it wanted him to be. That was only fair right, having risks being out here for it, that it would make most of the time that the kit managed to grasp.
The trees were tall, and the night dark, but Crescentkit wasn't scared as he padded into the undergrowth, scampering under bushes and through tree roots to avoid any eyes. She wasn't daft, she knew her medicine cat was dead and it was because of an owl. After that, she had simply asked what an owl was... and learned that they were certainly unkind. If able to swoop such a large cat such as an adult, one would have no struggles with a kit like him. So, he hid. Ducking and weaving, the only times her fur even showed to the tree branches high above was brief as he quickly darted to the next hiding place. Allowing her paws to take her.
Crescentkit would find what sings.

“No it's ok, I’ll wait for you to kiss my paws.”
Oh lightningpaw couldn't remember the rules currently. It felt like mentorstar kept switching them up all the time. Though it didn't matter this time as she swore she felt something fishy. Warriors tending to be quite useless all the time so she was going to do this on her own.
It was very dark out and Lightningpaw could barely see the distance and pondered if this was a good idea but she was already out of the camp and going back now was going to look very stupid on her part. She was the smartest cat ever so she couldn't have her name sullied like that. But that reasoning was shallow and Lightningpaw hated to admit to it, but she swore she smelt the smell of milk outside of the camp. The smell of someone from the nursery. This would be bad to let potentially a kit go out on their own, the scent trails didn't smell like queen, it was hard to describe in her own words what the difference in the smell was but she knew the distinction without words and at this point that was all that mattered. There could be predators lurking around here in the dark like owl!
.............Oh
It was safe to assume at this point Lightningpaw forgot the warning was based on an owl lurking the dark skies and she had heard of how deadly quiet these beast were, but did a kit know this? Now fearful for her own life, Lightningpaw kept an eye over her shoulder and kept looking over it in hopes to prevent being caught off guard. Thankfully the scent grew richer the more she approached but... The kit had a dark pelt and Lightningpaw hadn't been keeping an eye out for that. She was clueless as noses were nice, they didn't pinpoint anything like a glowing, flashing sign with an arrow pointing to a kit.
" Hey kid where are you? You aren't in trouble, I promise I won't tell Bumblestar. Me and her are close so she will believe my lies." Lightningpaw was a dirty liar and would tell Mentorstar what happened the instant she got this kit home. Unfortunately, she was just calling into the void of the dark. She hoped that this kit would show themselves, how exactly was she supposed to explain herself to Mentorstar about this blunder. Kit for the rest of her life would not suit her at all! Ugh.
