Satisfied with Daffodilpaw's condition, Lightningstorm began sorting through her herbs, Duckfeather's condition instantly taking center focus. While Hawkfur's leg was looking painful, those with difficulty breathing were taking her attention ever so slightly more. She couldn't help herself. Experience dictated that a breathing problem could turn deadly in an instant. The painful burns looked far more menacing, but smoke inhalation could have permanent consequences that an inexperienced cat would be unable to treat. Thankfully - or due to unfortunate prior events, depends on how one saw it - the medicine cat had plenty of experience when it came to cases like these, a matter than her apprentice brought up now as she looked for the perfect treatment for the injured - judging by her general, stiff stance - she-cat.

"Mmm? Oh. Been paying attention, haven't you? You are correct, juniper berries are all the rage when it comes to treating severe cases of lung scarring or issues brought upon by smoke inhalation... or other matters? I've had patients with breathing problems before that weren't smoke related, but the juniper berries seemed to work just fine as well. Those are good for multiple things, not just breathing. They work wonders for the stomach as well. My guess is that they relax the insides, sort of... like how chamomile soothes the mind? Although... getting ahead of myself there, aren't I? That's a lesson for another day," she purred in amusement as she found the feverfew and juniper berry she had been looking for.

"Coughing isn't always dire enough to need juniper berries, though. In fact, sometimes the juniper berry won't do a damn thing for your patient, and you are out a herb that is only available during a very specific season. Daffodilpaw's coughing sounded lighter. Less a dry, heaving cough and more so an irritated throat. She probably inhaled enough smoke to cause her some discomfort but nowhere near enough to damage her lungs. In that case, you want honey. Honey is good for a fair couple of things, a lot of them involving any kind of coughing that originates from the throat. It's also pretty good for energy, which is ace considering the coughing can do a number on you and leave you tired. Takes care of two things in one go there, then, dunnit? No more coughing, and you get a bit of a second wind!

It ain't without downside, though,"
she added as she padded towards Duckfeather, dropping a feverfew and a juniper berry in front of her, taking note of some excessive salivating that came from overheating before padding back swiftly for her honey water and offering that as well. "Here you go, love. Drink this. It's nice and sweet and will alleviate that throat of yours. After that I want you to eat this flower and berry while I check on you for any injuries and make sure those aren't causing you trouble no more."

"Where was I? Oh... yeah... The honey water!" Lightningstorm mewed, picking up her conversation with Rabbitpaw as she patiently waited for the molly to drink the honeyed water from the moss and eat the herbs she had brought along to help with her breathing and evidently overheated body. Thank the stars for Larkthroat's guidance on those feverfew. Who would have thought her latest fascination was even more useful than she had first thought?

"While honey is good for those coughing, ignoring how difficult it is to obtain for some cats, it's just thick, innit? Too thick to go down easily on someone who can barely breath due to how much coughing they are doing. So I mix it with water. I'm assuming the first cat to figure that out was trying to fix some crystalized honey in their stores without realizing what a good idea they'd had," she giggled, always in awe at the cats that had come before her and learned herbs she would probably have never stumbled upon as medicinal on her own.

She had so far to go to catch up to the far gone medicine cats. The ones not even stories seemed to remember. Understandably. Theirs was not a luxurious task. A heroic task. They were there to heal the ones that were seen as heroic. Nothing more, nothing less.

"Dandelion's a bit different. While useful for injuries and avoiding their infection, they are mostly used to numb the pain of specific injuries. That numbing agent isn't just on cuts, neither. You chew on one for any period of time, and your tongue's going to go so numb you'll have problem speaking. The numbness extends to the throat without having to swallow the leaves. Between the bitterness of the herbs and the numb throat though, I tend to prefer honey unless the throat ache is too severe... or I want the bloody arse to shut their trap for a few," Lightningstorm mewed, giggles escaping her once more as she offered Rabbitpaw a playful wink, letting him know she was kidding on that last threat. For the most part.

"How's it, Duckfeather? Anything particular hurts? Everything is a valid answer, but specifics help me find anything that needs swifter tending to," she mewed, lapis hues once more on her patient, assessing her stance as she took note of her paws. She would begin a full check-up as soon as the molly was done, already having an idea of at least one burn on her, but she preferred knowing where the warrior was most uncomfortable to have a guiding point to start with, especially with other patients waiting with just as much need of her attention now.

Rabbitpaw listened carefully as his mentor started to elaborate on the herbs in use and disuse and it seemed that he was on the mark when it came to a berry helping lungs but not quite in the way that he understood. The idea
of having lung scarring was something he didn't realize was a thing, though it made sense, though the idea of that kind of damage was terrifying. Was that what Crowtooth had? He had been in the first fire, was that what happened to him? The apprentice frowned at the idea, hopefully no one gained such an injury from this fire. Though on that topic, how was it that Lightningstorm could tell lung scarring from irritated lungs-

His green eyes lifted from watching Daffodilpaw to his mentor as she started to explain just that... different types of coughing? He's never really thought about the difference in that either... he tried to compare what he heard of the other cats in the area to other types of coughing he's heard though, it was likely due to inexperience, much of it sounded the same as it always does... Juniper berry for lung scarring, and other things? Though only deep coughing? Light coughing should be treated with honey water... that made sense, he thinks... It would do well too remember it, especially given their cast of so many patients here right now. "Hopefully... most of everyone only needs some honey or less than..." He mumbles in thought before realizing with a slight jolt that Miss Lightningstorm was walking away towards Duckfeather.

This time, she offered the honey water, juniper berry... and a flower of sorts he didn't quite recognize. Though the juniper berry meant that the coughing was worse than Daffodil's. His ears folded back in worry but he took the chance to try and compare what Duckfeather sounded like compared to the apprentice. He decided not to speak about his comparison, not wanting to worry the Molly but yapping about how 'juniper berries means its worse than just a irritated throat, right' because he can only imagine how distressing that would be from a medicine cat... even a medicine cat apprentice. He made a note to bring it up later.

"It's amazing to me that most herbs were discovered." He spoke earnestly, showing that he was still listening despite his silence. He was just taking a moment to fully process all of the information being thrown his way. "It's amazing that so many little plants hold so much ability to help." He offered, amazed by how much a single herb like dandelion can do to help his clan. Though he quieted in wait of Duckfeather's words, though it made him worried about her throat and having to talk... could she show instead? Can he offer that as a way of explanation? He didn't want her to hurt her throat and be in more than she already was so with a slightly nervous glance to Miss Lightningstorm and then offered in a lower, kind voice to Duckfeather,

"If talking hurts too much, you can show us instead, that can work too if you want.."
