"Oh for star's sake! It's not even leafbare yet! How's it so bloody cold?! Whatever force of nature decided we needed four seasons with one of them being so unbearably cold it leaks into two otherwise perfectly reasonable seasons deserves to be tossed out like moon old crowfood. Honestly, can it be newleaf already?"
Despite the WindClan medic's complaints, her eyes were mildly amused as she stared back towards her apprentice, offering a cheeky smirk his way. She had been lagging behind the leader - although apparently not behind the fart squirrel that had somehow convinced an entire clan of cats he was indeed a feline and thus could be made deputy - due to her reluctance to leave for the gathering, the wool that lined her nest keeping her nice and warm when compared to the chilly wind of Seastones. That was another one that needed to be fired. Whatever cat decided that the best place to hold gatherings was wherever your arse was most guaranteed to get frostbite during the cold seasons. Honestly! If this wasn't proof that the word of most ancestors should be taken with caution she had no idea what was.
Large ears perking up, Lightningstorm stared up at the medic's perch, taking note that Wolfpaw had already gotten there. It seemed she really had lagged some, as Bumblestar had already arrived by the time she had. Either that or the two leaders had arrived at the same time. Considering how absolutely exhausted the ThunderClan head looked, the herbalist couldn't help but wonder if maybe she too just wanted to get this gathering over and done with. Personally, the calico wasn't the biggest fan of these meet and greets on the best of nights. But nights like this? No thanks. She chose warmth and sanity.
As she made her way through the crowd, the spotted molly heard a familiar voice that made her pause. Lapis hues in an instant searched the handsome, red furred tom she had come to value as a good friend - although perhaps considering that some of that might have been due to his having been one of the first cats she remembered meeting her own feelings were a bit skewed on the matter - noticing him alongside WindClan's very own overgrown dust mite on their way to the deputy's perch. A playful smirk tugging at her whiskers, unable to restrain herself from mildly teasing the two toms, she chirped at the both of them, tail swaying behind her in a casual manner.
"If there's no room for you at the deputy's perch, love, I'll be glad to steal you away towards the medic's."
Lightningstorm fully expected a rebuttal from the deputy. Crowtooth always enjoyed giving some lip whenever he could, a trait of his the wiry framed she-cat was always happy to bring out of him. However, for the sake of maintaining the peace during the gathering - not that she expected anyone to actually interpret their banter as anything other than friendly - she moved along, turning her gaze towards Rabbitpaw's as she rolled her eyes in a clear expression that said
Let's get this over with... before leaping to her own place on the medic's perch, fur bristling lightly at how much cooler the stone seemed to be over the sand below. Clearly the sun had missed the news that it was supposed to warm the stones enough during the day so they were at least somewhat bearable at night. Bloody hell... this was going to be a long night. Although hopefully it would be a more peaceful one that last gathering. She was in no mood to entertain medics acting like newly named warriors hurling insults across the border. Medicine cats were there to heal. To mend. Not to showboat needlessly.
"Cheers to you, love," she purred as she turned her attention at Wolfpaw, thin, short furred tail instantly wrapping uselessly around her paws for a sense of warmth that it could not provide.
"I would say nice weather we've got going... but honestly, if this keeps up all throughout leafbare they are going to have to change my name to Doesn't-show-up-at-Gatherings-until-newleaf-storm. I hope the forest has been treating ThunderClan well?"
In truth, Lightningstorm hadn't gotten around to speaking to Wolfpaw since he'd been made medicine cat. Medicine cat apprentice? She wasn't certain, now that she thought of it. Couldn't remember. She blamed the cold for now. He was far younger than her. More closed off than her. She had no idea what it must be like to be so young and have so much responsibility already. Couldn't remember. But the feeling of being alone? Of knowing no one? Of being afraid of being seen as an outsider? As useless? That she knew well enough to not taunt the poor lad. He seemed to have gotten enough of that during his last gathering regardless. A pity, in all earnest. She expected such things from leaders. Deputies. Medicine cats should have been neutral. Times changed, however. That much had been made clear in moons past.
