Dawnstar's jaw was aching by the time she reached the Mire, lugging Sweetclaw's dead body with her. Her thoughts drifted to the last conversation had with her daughter, and the warning about Smokekit reincarnating as an eel living in the Mire. It needed to be fed once a moon. None of this surprised Dawnstar at this point in her life. The Clan leader has lived through a lot of crazy stuff, and hearing one of her grandkids was a water-snake creature was another walk through the forest for her.

The leader tossed the corpse into the water. It floated for a few seconds and slowly started sinking. Her eyes caught sight of the movement below the water's surface and then the corpse was dragged under. She barely spotted the eel before it was out of sight again. She was tempted to experiment with this, perhaps she'll throw live smaller prey. As much as she'd love to see if she could train this thing, Dawnstar knew better than to play with forces like that.

Intrigued, she found she might be visiting here more often. She missed talking to her mother after they had moved camps. Even if he wasn't inside that creature any longer, spilling her woos to something that couldn't speak back to her might help her manage her emotional stress. Getting up, Dawnstar quietly made her way back to camp.
