Leafbare was by far Honeykit’s least favourite season, it was infuriatingly cold, colorless and held all the sadness and despair the world had to overcome. A season when the land was suffocated by endless white hills of snow that buried all the world's beauty beneath it. Beauty that his brother would never get to experience for leafbare had bared its fangs at Poppykit and stolen him from what could be. From happier, warmer and brighter days. Leafbare had taken away something Honeykit had cherished and left him to fend off the new cold that now dwells within him in the place his brother should've been. A gaping hole in his heart that he doubted would ever be filled again.
Honeykit had spent the days after his brother's death, sleeping in their too big nest. He ate when he was required and groomed his fur like everyone else. He only got up when one of his siblings left if only to make sure they too didn't leave him completely. Everyday was the same, he had attempted to go back to normal but his efforts were in vain. He could never be happy, not when leafbare loomed over him and reminded of all those he lost. Those important things were stolen from him.
Now leafbare was over, in its stead was new leaf. New…new leaf. A new Honeykit would wake up. No longer would he sulk for leafbare was gone. He honestly did not like the mud that came with leafbare but it was better than snow. Held no bad memories. The dilute torbie rose from his nest and arched his back in stretch, he sat down to groom his fur for the third time since waking up. He had wasted enough of his days sleeping and it was time to wake up and face the day- days. Plural yes. Many more days to come. Honeykit had come to realise that he had wasted so much time in his life so far- he missed so many opportunities to hang out with Kes, to give mum gifts and show poppy how much he appreciated him. Anything could happen and he didn't want to live with regrets of giving his all. Not showing how much he cared. Gifts. He would find gifts for dad, roe and driz! He'd bring them food too, to keep them well fed and healthy. Oh and he'd make sure the fur was clean, dirt could equal sickness and sickness could equal death!!
Honeykit exited the nursery. His journey to find items to give his family members was immediately halted when his paw sank into a puddle of mud. Honeykit immediately cringed back and raised his paw, ew! Gross. No! There was mud everywhere and he was trapped! How was he supposed to reach the fresh kill pile now without damaging his fabulous fur. Wow is he.
