Cicadapaw gave his father a long, tired look - half-exasperated at the blatant attempt to dodge his demands
again. But for now, he’d play along and give him the clear answer because no, they were
not good.
"Alright then," he deadpanned, amber eyes dulled with fatigue. "Hornetpaw
seems fine, but I know she’s worried. Butterflypaw too. And Spiderlingpaw hasn’t said much, but she worried too. Mantispaw and Fireflypaw are keeping their heads down with training, but I don’t think for a second that means they’re not stressed."
He shifted his weight, irritation flickering behind his words. He still had Spiderflight pinned with a hard stare, pushing his worry down to focus on the task at hand.
"Fleapaw’s furious you went out with the second patrol in your state—not that you didn’t already know that from before. And Beetlepaw? Yeah, I don’t think he’s thrilled either." Cicadapaw had seen his face earlier before Spiderthroat had said goodbye.
"Cricketpaw’s… well, he’s Cricketpaw. Thinks everything’s fine, so he’s mostly okay." He paused, sarcasm fading at the edges. "Flykit’s been quiet. Not sure what’s going on there. And Dragonflykit seems fine. For now."
Then his voice dropped lower, raw and tired. "It’s Wasppaw I’m most worried about. She needs you." He hesitated, his gaze finally softening. "We all do."
He let silence hang between them a beat too long. Honestly, where were his other siblings? He could really use some backup right about now.
"Maybe if you stopped scaring the crap out of us, we could be a little better," he said quietly a bit bitter about not being listened to. "Just… rest up.
Please. For real this time. We need you at full strength. The whole Clan does.”
A small pause. "And seriously. At least check in with Treetiger. You’re not immortal. It'll make everyone feel better. And I'm not kidding about dragging you there." He'd circled back around to the topic he'd wanted to avoid.
