It was almost painful to be out here in plain view of all her Clanmates. Violetfreckle knew how she looked—unkempt, malnourished, just generally horrific—and she felt a wave of shame crash over her. But this wasn't about her, now. This was about Bumblebreak. Dedicated, resilient Bumblebreak who didn't know her own limits. Until now. Vi was immensely glad she had made this decision and, selfishly, looked forward to spending more time with her doing mundane things. Though she'd miss the comfort of the leader's den.
Speaking still hurt her throat more than she cared to admit, so Violetfreckle ended up opting to lean against Bumblebreak for support. For both of them, to be honest. One emotional, one physical. A low, strained purr started and she felt like it filled her whole chest, body,
being. When was the last time she felt like this? This mix of relief, love, and hope? The lilac tabby wasn't too sure, and didn't want to linger on the thought.
As the new ranks were announced, Vi nodded along. Flintclaw had fought bravely on their patrol, she wasn't shocked he'd been chosen to stand by Spiderthroat's side. And Hollowpaw had left, which meant a medicine cat apprentice. One of his children, eh? A decision for sure. It was too early to judge, but Vi hoped that Dragonflypaw wouldn't turn out like the rest of the medicine cats lately. Her tail flicked at the thought. As the names were chanted, the most she could muster was a raspy
"Fli'claw. Drag'nflypaw."
She sighed as her shoulders sagged. There was a lot of meeting left to go and Violetfreckle didn't want to be here anymore. The most important part was over, and frankly, she cared about very few of these cats. Most of them hardly did anything. Why should she care? As a quiet resentment bubbled up in her chest, her purr faded away.
