He had recently lost his mate, however, and was desperately upset about the loss of his wonderful mate. The tom sighed and once again looked around before hearing a small mewl. His ears instantly perked up and he looked around- no queen was around... they were all back at camp resting. Reedsplash bit his lip and walked around, trying to identify the small mew. He saw a small rustling in the leaves and mud and jumped over to it, his green eyes wide.
"My goodness..." he mewed, pushing a leaf off the small kit and picking it up carefully by the scruff. He noticed how small and frail she was, worry instantly pricking along his pelt. She most likely wasn't going to make it.
"Don't worry, dear..." he said, mouth full of her muddy pelt. "I will make you better. I promise." The tom quickly sprinted back, trying not to trip or jump- he needed to make the ride as smooth as possible... she couldn't die.

The feeling of a set of jaws clamping gently on her scruff barely prompted a reaction from the dazed, cold, and hungry kitten. The faintest squeak of surprise escaped her muzzle as she was lifted off the ground, but still she remained in her own dark, sightless world, hearing only faint sounds through her young, not yet fully functional ears, while her form hung limply from the jaws of the adult cat. She had not even the strength to lift her hind legs and tail and curl them up to her stomach as many young kits will do when being carried by their scruffs.
(To the nursery?)
