The agonizing silence spreading between them until the simple sentence explained everything. But at the same time broke her heart. She sniffles once but drained her tears. She wasn't planning on looking weak. Not in front of him again. This time she retunred his gaze for longer. Studying him closely. Was he serious? Was he actually serious or was he playing a trick on her? Making fun of her emotions. Making fun of her for loving. She swallowed hard as paranoid sweat beaded on her forehead.
"It... It can't be taught" was her response. So simple yet so heartbreaking for her. Ripping her heart in two as she finished. The fact that he may be making fun of her for so deeply loving him or just the sheer obliviousness to what the stupid word "love" meant. Now she fought the courage to stay and explain. She fought the panic that rose up in her chest sending her worries crawling like ants over her fur. What could she do? What should she do? What could she possibly say to sum up what the beautiful feeling was?
"It's something you feel inside... Something that makes you wanna be around someone... They make you feel wanted... And sometimes they make you cry" tears were building up dangerously close to her eyelids. She looked around the den for a moment. "They make you... Feel something so much bigger than yourself.. A meaning..." she said calmly. Looking back at him again. Fighting back the urge to cry. Her stoic side pushing itself into view. She sighed again her chest shrinking back. "You know it... You know what love is when you feel it for the first time"

Tumblestep felt disappointment flow through him. He hadn't expected such a saddening response of `it can't be taught`. To him, it sounded as if Daisyshade was falling out of love with him, which he did not want. He wanted her to stay in love with him, he wanted her to make him fall in love with her. He wanted to spend the rest of his life at her side, nuzzling her whenever he wants and curling around her when they went to bed at night. But his feelings were not yet strong enough for his dreams to become a reality.
But then she continued, and hope filled him once more. Tumblestep observed the tears threatening to stream down her cheeks, and he realized how much she truly did love him. He had made her cry, and now he wanted to make her smile. He always wanted to be around her - except for when she was mad at him just a few days ago, he was scared of rejection - and he felt wanted around her. And yes, Tumblestep had silently cried in his nest at night those days he wasn't on positive terms with Daisyshade. But did she make him feel bigger than he is? Did she give him meaning? He couldn't answer that quite yet.
Tumblestep met Daisyshade's gaze. She was clearly trying not to cry, and sympathy flooded through him. Don't cry, flower. Please don't cry! He felt the urge to put an end to her tears. ``Can - Can I try something?`` He whispered. He hoped she'd simply respond with a `yes`, otherwise things may turn out awkward. But then again, Tumblestep was an incredibly awkward tom, but he was trying not to be during this moment. His words were sincere.
