Ebonypaw was glad when his mentor nodded and didn't doubt him. That was something he hated, when cats doubted his abilities and skills. Ebonypaw was also silent, unable to find the correct words. It was a bit awkward, but he liked silence sometimes. It was better than loudness. Ebonypaw tilted his head slightly at his mentor, eyes shining with a mix of emotions. Mostly curiosity. He seemed to have something bothering him. Ebonypaw preferred fighting or hunting when training, but he understood that knowing the code was important. Ivorypaw always told him that and drilled it into his head every day since they became apprentices. Ebonypaw let out a silent sigh, restless-feeling. He wanted to move, but he settled for kneading the ground with his claws, flinging a bit of dirt on his paws, though he didn't mind. He wasn't a neat freak. He didn't know why he'd told his mentor he'd make him his deputy, because he'd probably be in StarClan by then, but it was the thought that counted...maybe. He didn't really understand that sentimental stuff. Ebonypaw returned the small smile, though he felt odd about it. He was being cheesy, Ivorypaw was rubbing off on him too much, he'd need to tell her to stop being so friendly. That was weird to think about, but he didn't like sentiment and cheesiness. "No problem." He mewed. Ivorypaw's revenge was crazy, he wouldn't be able to sleep in his own nest for a moon if she found out he'd said that. "Good." He chuckled. Ebonypaw had grown slightly serious again, ready to answer his next statement or question. He prepared himself, trying to remember all the rules of the code. He nodded slightly. "The first rule of the code is.." he paused, "Defend your Clan, even with your life..you can have friendships with cats from other Clans, but your loyalty must remain with your Clan, as one day you might meet them in battle." Okay, gotta thank Ivory for pounding it into my head now. He thought.
Flintheart gave a slight nod of his head to his apprentice’s words, the male’s tail flicking back and forth beside him on the fallen log. “Correct, Ebonypaw.” He murmured, looking down at the youth once more with a slight proud smile on his maw. The grey-furred tomcat was expecting the youth to not know the code word to word, but of course, his student had impressed his multiple times before this - so he wasn’t really surprised all that much anymore. Ebonypaw was a smart, determined tomcat that Thunderclan deserved to have as their next generation of good, loyal warriors one day. “The second code..” Flintheart starting, giving a slight pause for effect, “..is to never trespass or hunt in another clan’s territory. A simple rule that many cats, sadly, break very enough these days. Can you tell me the reasoning behind this, in your own opinion? Why do you think cats trespass other land so much?” The Burmilla was aiming to test his student and seeing how educated he truly was when it came to this stuff. His sister, no doubt, was as smart as he was. Flintheart had always wondered if the two were along the dynamics of Ebonypaw being the brawn and Ivorypaw being the brains - but that was too much a cliche, was it not? It was just a mere thought that he had once, a long time ago.
