Stormclaw shifted quietly from under the bush he had settled himself under. He had rolled in pine needles, hoping to make his scent unable to be sorted from the others around them.

He didn't want to give away his location, it was better to let the apprentices and she-cat finish their conversation, let the apprentices get a ways away, and THEN confront them.

Stormclaw knew his actions weren't justified, but at this point in time he didn't care.

1: Redfur reminds Stormclaw of his failures. Stormclaw doesn't have a mate, Red has had one, Redfur has kits, Stormclaw has none.

2: Redfur reminds Stormclaw of what he lacks: Redfur has daughters, Stormclaw doesn't have ANYONE. Redfur has cats who would support him, while the closest thing Stormclaw has to a family is his apprentice and a small circle of friends.

3: Stormclaw wants to feel better about himself. He sees Redfur as a threat, and like anyone who feels irrationally threatened, he lashes out because Redfur SCARES him.

4: Redfur reminds Stormclaw of himself. Both are defensive and sarcastic, both have protective streaks, and both are so similar that they clash.
