the apprentice stumbled into the snow, face-planting into the cold white surface. "mmnGH!" he whined, pushing himself up. he shook his fur, though some managed to stay on him-- adding more white speckles to him. he inhaled the crisp air, letting his shoulders relax. wormpaw figured he should head back-- he didn't want dirtfur to start worrying. he thought he did decent. of course,, wormpaw had a couple accidents. in where his vision played tricks on him.
he let out a chuckle, gathering up the prey he had. the black tom retraced his pawsteps and returned to the spot they had first left. wormpaw had caught three mouses + the squirrel he had formerly. he glanced around, "dirtfur..?" he mumbled, turning around. he sniffed the air-- searching for his mentor's scent/

The filthy mentor came back with two starlings in his maw. He haven't caught enough due to the season, that and his worst vision ruins his catch on a vole. Stupid voles... stupid eyes.
He dropped his prey in front of his apprentice. "Here I am," he answered to the question. He eyed the three mice and an additional squirrel. "Damn." he muttered. Wormpaw definitely kicked his mentor's tail! Envy formed inside Dirtfur's chest, but another emotion took its place: pride.

"Very well done, you win." he praised and congratulated. Looking over his shoulder, he mumbled something unintelligible. Turning back, the deputy locked amber eyes onto the tall apprentice. "Get your fresh-kill, time to head back." he ordered, grabbing his two prey. "Also," Dirtfur added, "For an award for your hunting skills, you have free-time tomorrow and the day after... and the day after that." the dirt-tom mumbled the last words distressingly. The award was nothing... there was no award, but an excuse for Dirtfur's whitecough. He knew training Wormpaw longer wouldn't brighten Lionstar's day.
