Whitesong noted his words "mess with you around the lady". He knew that Creekrunner would be back, and with more taunts for the white tom.
He dreaded when it happened. He held his tongue, swallowing the hiss that rose in his throat at the receding sight of the other warrior.
When the cheeky warrior left, Whitesong scrunched up his nose, standing there for a moment, before heaving a sigh. He met Songbird's djon yellow eyes and lowed his head.
"I'm sorry."
His voice was a rumble in his chest.
He knew that he shouldn't have acted that way. Especially when Songbird and her kits were nearby. But he couldn't stop himself, Creekrunner was trying to enrage him, and the gentle white tom was turned quickly on edge.
"I shouldn't have reacted that way around your new kits."
It was like a spirit of anger had taken over the normally peaceful tom, though in the back of his head Whitesong knew that if the spotted queen wasn't nearby, he would have taken pleasure in raking his claws over the other tom's ears.
He would have felt bad about it after the fact.
Whitesong may have been more jealous then he let on.
He raised his gaze to meet Songbird's eyes still covered in a glaze of sadness. This was the cat that Songbird had had kits with?
"I'm usually more levelheaded, but knowing that he took pleasure in taunting me..." He paused, pondering for a moment.
"It still doesn't excuse me."
