Sagedust couldn’t help the grin that spread on her otherwise relaxed face. He was too cute. She wanted to laugh, but didn’t want to give herself away just yet. Luckily, Flintfreckle seemed flustered enough that Sagedust doubted he would notice her barely repressed laughter. “Oh, I don’t think you’ll be allowed to come with me,” she mused brightly, “but you can always come visit.” She couldn’t look at him. If she looked at him she would burst into laughter and not be able to keep talking. Instead, Sagedust studied the lapping water and flicked an ear to make sure their clan hadn’t left them behind. “As for where I’m going,” she added, stretching the pauses between words to leave suspense, “I was thinking... the nursery.” There it was! She’d finally gave him her news and now they could prepare for a life with more than two.
