The darkness was calming. It hid... the truth. Nothing to see here, it whispered, just a little secret, hidden in the dark. Leaves rustled as a shrew darted out from under the bush. With a swift pounce, Lion snatched it up, breaking its neck easily. The golden tom sat down and closed his eyes for a moment. Why another shrew? He never realized they were that common.
Lion stood back up, shrew between his jaws, and started walking back to where he and Soybean had slept. He was lost. He used to never get lost. Can a cat get lost if he has no home in the first place? He forced the thought out of his mind, then spotted Soybean. He sat down a few tail lengths from the other loner, making note of the thrush. Lion set his own shrew down and watched it blankly. He should eat, but he wasn't hungry. This was supposed to be a time of relaxation, but he young tom didn't feel relaxed or calm. Lion was itching to do something better. Where did he belong?
