dreampaw watched through narrow eyes as blackpaw went to sit down next to berrypaw.

berrypaw.

and to make matters worse, he'd bumped into berrypaw! his fur had touched hers. the audacity! look at berrypaw, ruining dreampaw's future. hmph. and blackpaw was helping her!! that wasn't very blackpaw-y of him! he was supposed to be being heroic, not helping berrypaw bug her.

what if... what if blackpaw liked berrypaw???? what if their whole friendship was just a sham?!? blackpaw could be bamboozling dreampaw! maybe he was just playing with her heart for entertainment!! no.... blackpaw would never do that..... right? blackpaw was the good guy here. berrypaw was the one she should really be mad at. she was the one ruining everything.

dreampaw gave all three of them the silent treatment, though foggykit was alright with her---dreampaw was just ignoring all three so that it didn't look suspicious, but she would've been fine talking to foggy over here. foggy was cool. blackpaw was... okay at the moment. berrypaw was not.

the apprentice flickered her ear disinterestedly every time one of them talked, not saying a word. she faintly heard blackpaw say her name, and her heart fluttered softly, naturally, but she was too lost in her misplaced frustration to pay attention to what any of them had to say. they were all against her. they all preferred berrypaw. it was a three vs. one. this wasn't a fair fight, and dreampaw wasn't going to stand for it.

"oh.... hm? did you say something?" she murmured distractedly, avoiding eye contact & glancing off to the side.

maybe it was just a brush of fur. an accident. a mistake. maybe it meant nothing. maybe dreampaw was overthinking. maybe it was all of the above.... but dreampaw couldn't stop herself from re-watching that moment over and over again.... and her heart broke a little bit more each time.
