Default Re: Short Stories!

It wasn't the best day to be out and about. Being greenleaf, it was hot, while early morning mist swirled everywhere. The air was sticky and humid, and for the most part, the sparse woodland was silent. It was only broken by the faint slosh of a nearby river, which swirled past with a thick, dark current.
"The sun's rising!"
A panicked, young voice that sounded like it belonged to a tom-kit rose up, piercing the still air. The sun was barely visible, with mainly pale gray light creeping up into the edges with the faintest hint of yellow. The tom-kit was near the river, his black-and-gray fur prickling with what looked to be anxiety.
"Hush, will you? And it's not that high up!"
The second voice also sounded like it belonged to a kit, a she-kit. Her black tortoiseshell fur, marked with a sparkling sheen of mottled patches, had begun to stand on end. She looked very annoyed with the tom-kit.
Now the tom-kit just looked even more stressed. "We shouldn't have done this!" he hissed, looking around wildly. "I don't want to get in trouble!" His eyes were wide with panic and fear.
The tortoiseshell rolled her amberish-orange eyes. "Ugh, Darkkit, you're such a fun-ruiner!" she whined. "We could get back to camp really quickly!"
"Not before a dawn patrol is sent out!" the tom-kit, Darkkit, groaned. "And they don't like me enough already!"
"That was just Riverkit," the she-kit snapped. "Stop being so paranoid!"
"You don't get it, Goslingkit!" Darkkit looked very upset at this point.
"Well, I do! If you weren't so annoying about it-" Goslingkit began, her tone rising in anger.
Darkkit lunged at her, knocking the fragile-framed she-kit over. Hissing in anger, Goslingkit flipped over, kicking his belly hard with her hind legs. Darkkit's eyes widened in surprise as he fell over onto his back, all of the air seeming to get knocked out of him. As Goslingkit stood over him triumphantly, the tom-kit found his paws and scrambled upward, ready to leap at her again.
However, Goslingkit leaped at him and got a direct hit this time, propelling the tom-kit to the ground so that he lay flat on his belly. Pressing into his back, the she-kit was able to keep Darkkit down as he struggled and eventually gave up.
"Ugh!" he exclaimed, his eyes flashing with terror. "Get off of me!"
Goslingkit laughed. "You're silly," she mewed.
"Am not!" Darkkit struggled and Goslingkit nearly fell off.
The she-kit giggled. "But you are funny."
Darkkit relaxed. "Do you actually think so?" he asked.
Goslingkit grinned. "Of course! You act silly."
Darkkit rolled his eyes, but he seemed to have lost his initial annoyance. "You're more level-headed than me sometimes," he sighed. Then he added, "Well, but you still led us out of the RiverClan camp."
Goslingkit relaxed and smiled. "Well, you didn't have to go if you didn't want to."
"But it would be nice to spend time with you," Darkkit blurted.
Goslingkit paused. "So... you aren't mad at me anymore?" she asked.
"How could I be? You're too pretty," Darkkit purred.
Goslingkit rolled her eyes good-naturedly and grinned, sliding off of him and getting to her paws. "Well, you're not so bad-looking yourself."
"That's good to know." Darkkit shook out his bicolored pelt.
"Well, I think that we should be heading back before all of RiverClan is searching for us," Goslingkit purred.
Darkkit nodded, looking more serious. "Yeah."
The two kits headed off together.
