Pursing her lips, Otterberry decided to put an end to this back and forth about age. He knew just as well as she that they were the same age! The molly sniffed as Breezefeather withstood her shove and circled around him with her tail fluffed and curled, high in the air to give herself a haughty air.

“Give it a rest, old timer- we’re the same age and you know that just as well as I.”

Giggling like an apprentice again, Otterberry nudged him back in retaliation for his bump. Her reflexes were perfect- honed by moons fending for herself and protecting young fosters. Of course, the deputy had honed skills as well from his moons of clan life but that wouldn’t stop either of them from teasing the other.

“Aw, did I hurt your feelings? I do apologize- that was never my intention, old friend.”

With a wink, Otter hopped onto a rock, peering down at the crime scene as they sobered up to think about the cat’s death. The flat stone beneath her paws felt warm from the sun and Otterberry fell smoothly to her stomach, front paws hanging from the side.

“It is possible that a snake bit the warrior in front of Halfpaw and something else came along to finish her off while the apprentice ran for help?”
