Hornetpaw almost tripped herself backward, startled by Songlight's sudden burst of movement She lowered herself onto her haunches so she could regain some balance, bobbed tail stirring up dust from underneath her. She listened to her mentor's spiel with her head cocked to the side, a curious expression on her face. Memory loss? A nickname? Songlight... puzzled the young molly, to say the least. At least things were going to be interesting.

The calico van shook herself from her thoughts as Songlight prepared to leave, following hot on her mentor's tail. When Songlight voiced her approval for the pair to race, it brought a spark into Hornetpaw's eyes and she jumped back to her paws. "Yeah, we are!" She yowled, energy starting to coarse back through her. "And I'm always ready!" With that, the she-cat broke into a run, bursting through the entrance to camp and shouldering her way roughly through the other patrols moving to leave. Her pawsteps pounded the ground, gaining speed as she went, heather and grass whipping past her. The fresh scents of the territory flooded over her and she relished the euphoric feeling, even closing her eyes as she allowed muscle memory to carry her out over the moor.

For a moment, she had actually forgotten her patrol assignment and her mentor all together. Hornetpaw came back to reality, slowing her pace and craning her neck to see where she was. She looked towards Songlight, a bit uneasy now and not really sure where to begin. Patrols were so formal. It didn't really suit the young cat. Hunting, while an obvious necessity, was at times a bore to Hornetpw. Besides, the moors had been empty lately. She'd much rather have been spending her morning racing through the heather and exploring the moor. Who knew, maybe Songlight would let her, or even join her.
