“Good enough,” Finchwhisker mewed curtly. In reality there wasn’t much wrong with Shadepaw’s form at all, but the deputy was being exceedingly picky. He wanted his apprentice to be the better than all the rest, and in his eyes, that meant utmost perfection. “The final move we will be learning today is the belly rake.” This one would be a little tricker to demonstrate. A supplemental explanation might also be in order.
“This maneuver works well if you find yourself pinned beneath an opponent. Make sure you’re laying on your back, paws pointed up towards their belly.” As he spoke, the deputy rolled onto his back and acted as though another cat had him pinned down. “From there, simply unsheathe your claws and rake them across their belly.” The name of the move basically spoke for itself, but he continued the demonstration anyways, swiping his claws through the air above him, as though he were aiming for another cat’s soft stomach. With a huff, the dark tabby rolled back into a sitting position and briskly meowed, “Show me what you’ve got.”
