Re: The Shadowledge
Dawnstar watched this little drama play out with a tense scowl on her face. She had no clue how being bait turned into being gifted as an honor, but whatever got cats volunteering. She did not take Nightfur and Larkwing's argument with Whisperpaw and Badgerpaw well, they demanded respect being warriors, but then the pair of them sat there and blatantly insulted their clan leader, the highest-ranked in their clan. Talk about hypocrites. Still, wasting her breath on mousebrains got her nowhere. If they hadn't learned their lesson playing dog bait and continued their foolish antics, Dawnstar would have to take matters personally into her paws, tedious, but a leader's got to do what a leader's got to do.
Badgerpaw tossing out that he was deemed her favorite apprentice did not sit well with the leader either. Dawnstar would often use being Icestar's favorite to irk Hailstorm, but she never used being the former leader's daughter against any of her clanmates to get her way or win an argument. Icestar did not coddle her for any reason. When Dawnstar had gotten into fights verbal or physical, she had to use her own wit and skill to earn respect or make whoever submit. Badgerpaw merely looked like a mewling kit expecting having his mother's favor would turn the tide. It was pitiful. Perhaps she was being too indulgent with him, which needed correcting immediately. What use did she have for him if he merely relied on having her as his trump card, was it not suppose to the other way around?
Her ears twitched with interest when Redshrike offered some actually useful advice, Badgerpaw would make quick friends with the newest warrior. He'd make a decent role model if nothing else. Her eyes darted back over to Nightfur and Larkwing as the pair made to walk off further away. Yeah, no, Nightfur she could care less about. But Larkwing... oh poor stupid Larkwing, she had snuck back into the clan without even a hello. That didn't sit well with Dawnstar at all. Cats did not come and go within her clan.
"Larkwing, I am only saying this once. You will come and sit at the foot of the Shadowledge until I am done with the little meeting. You and I have to discuss your little disappearing and reappearing act, as well as why you think you're above everyone else and can stroll back into ShadowClan at your own whim. If you do not, I'll let the clan tear you apart. You snuck back into the clan without my okay, you're a trespasser, and I have half a mind to treat you like one. You are not allowed to join in the dog hunt, since I haven't even allowed you back into the clan." There was a protocol for cats who left and came back, talking to her, was it. One does not just leave the clan and come back as they please.
"Skyleap, Whisperpaw, and Whitepaw, you three will help Nightfur with the run..." Her eyes flashed with agitation as she glanced at a certain kit. "Wormkit, first off I don't remember saying that you could come along, second off, you continue to disrespect me by your inability to follow a single order I give you. If you could stop being an insufferable hairball, and listened for once, maybe I could take you seriously." Dawnstar was pretty sure she told the kit to shut up, she couldn't even do that right. Dawnstar was truly regretting taking the cat in, she's caused her nothing but a headache. The disobedience was getting out of paw.
"I don't trust any of you to make the run from the Mourning Ruins all the way to the Icy Heartlands, not even I could without lagging, I expect you four to station yourself at different landmarks, switch out with each other when you reach a mark. One starts at the Mourning Ruins and runs to the fallen spruce tree, switch, the next can head to the stream, and so on. Talk to each other and make sure you know what you're doing, your lives are on the line. Make sure to give out a yowl so whoever's switching with you knows you're coming and can keep leading the pack." Dawnstar warned sternly before looking at the rest of the cats and begun splitting them up.
"Finchwhisker and Redshrike will lead the frontal assault. Only when Finchwhisker gives the signal to attack, Redshrike's patrol will follow. Finchwhisker will be in charge of Scorchstrike, Berrypaw, Shadepaw, Smokepaw, Moonshadow, Cloudheart, and Brackenpaw.
Redshrike will lead Gorsesong, Buckpaw, Frostpaw, Flashtail, Swiftpounce, Shrewstep, and Tigerdawn.
Dreamcloud and I will handle the ambushing in the back. Dreamcloud's patrol will have Dapplecloud, Grimhound, Badgerpaw, Ashenpaw, Tigerlily, Hopepelt, and Gingerpaw.
"Frogfang, Embershadow, Thornclaw, Quailpaw, Venompaw, Wolfwhisper, and Tigerfang, you'll all be in a patrol with me. When I give the signal you'll follow me, Dreamcloud and her patrol will back us up. The dogs must be kept boxed in, perhaps in their confusion they'll start tearing each other apart, making it easier for us to finish them off." She's noticed that dogs didn't have the common sense to tell friend from foe when too amped up. ShadowClan would be stupid not to use that to their advantage.
"Nightfur is to join Finchwhisker patrol as soon as you recover, Whisperpaw will join my patrol, Skyleap with Redshirke's and Whitepaw with Dreamcloud's. Any questions?"
[This was rather hard to sort out, I tried hard to keep mentors with apprentices, not sure if I got everyone. Let Dawn know if you're not sorted in a patrol.]
