Oddly enough Sunpaw can't ever recall ever coming to this part of the territory, if she had it was really faint. She gave her mentor a smile in return to their greeting before she went to awing at their surroundings. Her being awed at parts of the territory was probably going to be a frequent occurrence for her, being out of camp was like a bit of fresh air for her. She wished that the land wasn't still frozen over, she could of tried to splash around in the shallow parts of the water if possible. She also didn't like leaf bare all that much, she could hardly find any pretty flowers most would be dead by now. So she wondered besides her mentor keeping close to them as she looked around. Sunpa wondered how it would be anywhere close to possible finding that herb that Hollowpaw wanted, could it even survive the harsh cold? Oh well she would try and find something, anything would do at this point she was sure of it. "All the plants look...dead?" she somewhat whined as she glanced around, the snow wasn't helping at all.

Well, it didn't appear Ivypaw was showing up. A pang of sadness hit his chest as he thought of his apprentice. She had been assigned to him before he had left for his journey, and he still had yet to see her. He hoped she was okay. Shaking the thought from his head, Raggedear grinned cheekily at his patrol mates. "Yep, let's get going." He mewed in response to Autumnsong, allowing room Dandelionmane to take the lead.

As the crew arrived at Cattail Pond, Raggedear opened his jaw to scent the air. Ah, a water vole! It must be his lucky day- those were his favorite! Dropping into a crouch, the Hornet snuck up on his prey before killing it swiftly, trotting back to his clan mates proudly. It wasn't very fat, but it was prey.

Ivypaw didn't seem to be showing up, whoever they are. Oh well! They still had a decent amount of cats. Dandelionmane nodded to Raggedear, taking lead, stopping when they noticed him crouch. They quietly watched him, examining every move he made, all the way to the catch.

They grinned in response "Nice catch!" They called out with a purr, their head whipping around as they heard something from a short distance away, what's that? They wondered as they slowed, nearing the noise, the scent of squirrel filled their nostrils as they were now in pouncing distance.

Dandelionmane leaped at it, landing just to the squirrels side. They had about a second to react, they lash out a paw at the squirrel, which had been alerted of Dandelion's presence and had begun to run away.

Dandelionmane is quick to react, hooking their claws into the squirrel, yanking it closer before killing it quickly. They picked up the rather unnoteworthy squirrel back to the group, smiling widely behind it.

At his apprentice's observation, the tom snorted in agreement, a nod accenting his wordless response. Herb's mention of cobwebs and sticks was looking more and more appealing by the second, but Sprucejumper wasn't sold on letting go of his original task. If Herb wanted goldenrod, he would get goldenrod, damn it. Still... it would be wise to keep in mind those sticks that seemed to be half covered with snow. They looked sturdy. Useful. He was certain a couple of them wouldn't be the worst thing to bring back if Herb had mentioned them.

Moving through the snow, a small mound with a bit of protruding green caught his eye and with dark ears perked up, he took to digging through the white powder as he ignored his toes' complaints. He was meticulous with his digging. The last thing he needed was to rip apart the plants underneath if he had found what he was sent to seek. The more he dug, the further convinced he had found the goldenrod as well, the mound of snow having been misleading as it appeared to be a full, long stem filled with the golden flowers - by now mostly frost damaged with some exceptions - that had fallen over by either wind or the weight of the snow. The chocolate point had no idea which it had been, and frankly he cared little for the answer, taking comfort in the mere fact that he had found some at all.

"Hereabouts," he called out as he continued his dig, exposing more and more of the fallen, long stalk.

Gingerly, after careful study, Sprucejumper gathered one of the better looking flowers, feeling it might still have some use for the herb cats. Trusting the others to look through his find or perhaps even find some herbs of their own, he went back to the spot nearby where he had found the two sturdy sticks, using his forelegs to grab and move them before adding them uncomfortably to his mouth. Unwilling to risk carrying any more of the goldenrod for fear it would be smooshed between the wood, he turned his attention to Snotzilla and Sugarbird, hoping they had found a good number of herbs to bring back themselves so they could head back soon. His delicate toe beans were not meant for such weather, if it was all the same to the rest of the clan. This is why he would take tree climbing to half frozen ponds any day, no matter the weather.

As the patrol slowly filtered out into Cattail Pond, Nettlepaw followed suit. They didn’t know most of the cats with them, but at least they knew Dandelionmane. Looking around, they held their jaw ajar to take in the scents nearby, hoping to sniff out some prey.

A juicy mouse! Nettlepaw suddenly got into a hunting crouch, and soon their gaze met the sight of a nice, plump mouse. It had probably come out too early in the season, maybe it was trying to get food itself. That didn’t exactly matter a whole lot to Nettlepaw. All that mattered to them was catching this great piece of prey.

At that moment, once the apprentice had gotten close enough to the soon-to-be fresh-kill, they bunched their muscles and pounced quickly onto the mouse. Nettlepaw quickly delivered a killing bite, but after catching the prey made sure to give a silent thanks to Starclan for its life. As they expected to catch more prey, they buried the mouse neatly before heading back out.

Autumnsong followed her assigned patrol partners, sniffling the air for any possible prey. Beetlepaw had been following closely behind her, doing his own thing.
It might've been needed that her apprentice may need some guidance in this, but she had faith he'd get it.
She'd watch Nettlepaw just catch a mouse, so surely Beetlepaw was fine.

Autumnsong would sniff the air again, catching onto the scent of a nearby squirrel that seemingly was foraging for berries on the forest floor. A simple and quick catch. This would likely end up well for her and her fellow Clanmates that had been on the same team in the competition with her.
( Approaching.. ~ Rolled a 13! ~ Sides: 20, again ~ Autumnsong approached the prey, barely managing, but still managing! )
Autumnsong crept on on the squirrel, crouching into position, she apprached it with little to no mistakes, that is until the squirrel moved a bit more to the left! Boo! Stay still, would you?
Autumnsong managed to get close enough to the damn thing, but it would've been easier if it'd stayed in one place..

Autumnsong would creep forward just a little before lunging at the plump squirrel, catching it off gaurd. She landed on it, making it hit flat on the ground hard.
At last, she'd deliver the killing blow by sinking her teeth into its neck and then picking it up. The freshly caught prey dangled in her jaws for a moment as she held it while digging a small hole for the prey, burying it afterwards and covering it with a mound of dirt as to not forget it were there. After, Autumnsong padded back over to her patrolmates with satisfaction.

The calico followed behind the group. Looking around as they made their way towards the selected hunting area. He'd...not actually been trained on this. But truth be told he could generally understand it with out any problem. Upwind, don't get caught, slow and steady unless prey tries to make a jump for it.

Well. At least that's what he believed. Ears angled forwards as he spotted a rather small looking mouse. Taking a crouched step forwards, the apprentice crackled a frozen blade of grass. Alerting the mouse and allowing it to run off.

Instantly Beetlepaw ran to catch up with it. Keeping low, he shuffled through the frozen grass, making an effort not to make the same mistake once more. In a quick motion, he swept his paw forwards, launching the mouse to the side, and effectively killing it in a rather un elegant bite. It was minimally mangled.


One thing caught, now an attempt at another. The mouse wouldn't help him beat father. Looking around, blue eyes found...yet another mouse. Well. A mouse was a mouse. He'd take anything.

Once again, the black and white apprentice slunk forwards, belly brushing the cold, frosted floor. Taking ease in where he put his paws, it would be emberassing if the same thing happened aga-. He snapped a frozen grass blade and the mouse went running.

With a hiss he shot towards the mouse. This one was faster by a landslide. Weaving too and fro, almost shaking him off the trail. As it ducked inside a hollowed out tree trunk, Beetlepaw too shot after it. Unceremoniously smashing it's head against the wood. Not the neatest kill.

...now he had to get unstuck from the tree trunk.

Sunpaw had hopes that she could of snatched a few non needed flowers but with the snow and cold it was unlikely. She was disappointed, this is why she very much preferred greenleaf, it was much warmer and a lot of stuff could be found easier. The apprentice nosed around looking for any of the requested items at this point, she didn't want to face Hollowpaws ire for coming back empty pawed. Amber eyes side-eyed her mentor as he spoke and dug in the snow, oh she didn't think to dig. She had assumed anything buried by the snow was good as dead, apparently not. With that new tidbit she got to digging in the snow herself copying her mentor as she looked in the snow for remains.

[ Rolled a 8 for goldenrod ]

Yet it seemed only her luck she was finding withered up goldenrods that had clearly been decimated by the snow burying it. She pouted as she gave a moment to stare at the poor dead herb, before she just slapped snow back over it. Sunpaw tried a few more times of digging in random spots of the snow, either finding nothing or another set of the withered frostbitten herb beneath. Guess she had no choice to go after the second set of options, no luck with the herb if she kept getting the same results. With the biggest pout she's ever had in her life she nabbed the few sticks she saw on sight, easiest thing to find so far. Now to see if she would have some luck finding cobwebs, she'd feel silly just carrying sticks and nothing else.

Luck was indeed on her side for the time, thought not for item she was sent out to look for. Making use of the sticks she had in her maw she wrapped the cobwebs she found nestled in a crevice. With her haul she hopped in the snow over towards Sprucejumper with a little pep to her walk.

Good! Things were going good, the patrol was going nicely and everyone was getting along, great! The pure white warrior hummed softly as they once more lifted their nose, their jaw parted as they took in the scents of Thunderclan. Ah! A mouse! I think-

[ Rolled a 14 ]

Dandelionmane closed their eyes taking in another deep breath, yup! A mouse. The warrior took off in the direction of the scent, crouching once they were close enough to the mouse, again, not the best looking, but definitely good enough for one cat. They crept forward before leaping at it.

[ Rolled a 4 ]

They missed, pretty badly too, yikes. The warrior sucked a sharp breath in through their teeth as they pushed themself to their paws in enough time to watch the mouse scamper away into the forest. Stars damn it! They thought to themself.

They had to try again, they couldn't give up yet. They sniffed around.

[ Rolled a 14 ]

They picked up the scent of... was that a robin? Dandelionmane's eyes lit up, oh? A sign of new-leaf coming perhaps! They longed for the newleaf or greenleaf, they grew tired of the cold and wanted the nicer weather back.

They padded off in the direction of the scent, crouching before preparing to pounce.

They managed to land on it, killing it semi-cleanly. Not their cleanest kill but oh well, it was still edible. The pure white warrior picked the robin up before making their way back to their patrol. They dropped the robin onto their earlier squirrel and looked around at their patrolmates.

"Wonderful catches everyone!" Dandelion called out with a purr, beaming proudly at their clanmates.

Autumnsong let out a low hum, padding towards Beetlepaw.
"Two good catches, although you seem a bit stuck.. Need a paw?" Autumnsong chuckled.

In all honesty, she probably should train her apprentice more, she was a bit behind on that. Hunting was something needed.. Clearly.. But then again, it's not like she could've foretold this whole competition.. Although she should've helped her apprentice be more prepared.. Well, she'd have to teach him a quick thing now, maybe Beetlepaw'd catch prey a little more gracefully.. More neater. But, it's clear that he's a quick learner, which was good news for Autumnsong!

"Leaf-bare makes hunting harder, less prey, thinner prey, and slippery or crunchy ice and snow. It's important to not only keep an eye on your prey, but also to keep an eye on where you step." Autumnsong told Beetlepaw, flicking her tail lightly.
"Other than your clumsy catches, you did great Beetlepaw. You learn quickly, even without practice beforehand." She'd continue on before stopping and crouching down beside Beetlepaw, pulling him out of the hollowed out stump.
"You want a quick practice before you continue lunging into hollowed out trees?" She'd let out a lighthearted purr, waiting for Beetlepaw's response.
