Caroline looked around as he spoke, a frown still fixed on her face. Finally, she looked down. "I guess so."

He stops and looks at her. "I-I am sorry, I shouldn't have said that. I... I apologize if I overstepped, meine liebe..." The young ex-soldier murmurs as he flushes slightly. Then he feels something his his right shoulder, and he looks behind him to see an angry American standing there.

"Soldier boy, what do you think you're doing? THis is a respectable young woman - and you're nothing more than a mangy German scum. Return to your home, rat, and leave her alone."

"what home? there is nowhere for me to return to." He says as he takes a step away from the American. He feels something akin to violence radiating off of the American private - and he does not want to fight in front of Caroline.

Caroline was drawn out of a moment of thought when somebody, somebody with a lot of nerve, stepped forward and insulted Wilhelm. Oh man, absolutely not. Not on her watch. She stepped forward, towards the American soldier, and stood on her tippy-toes so her face was level with his.

"Who're you to pass judgment on a young man that you don't even know? He's no rat, and he's no scum. Burn in Hell, you arse," she hissed.

Wilhelm's hands tighten into fists when he sees the look on the American's now-red face. When the shorter man takes a step forward, raising his hand-

Wilhelm grabs his arm in a tight grip. "If you touch her, amerikanisch, I will make you wish you had never been born." He breathes, his usually soft and hesitant voice filled with malice and the ability to hurt. The other people fall silent, and they watch. They don't interfere - some of the British actually glare at the Americans.

Then Wilhelm lets go, pushing the American away as he does so. "Leave or you will regret speaking to me."

Caroline shrugs. "Now that you mention it, I am pretty hungry," she says with a smile. She mentally cursed everybody who made Wilhelm uncomfortable.

He smiles again, only this time a little wider. In his pocket is a knife, then he looks around for Caroline's friends - chaperones? "Uh... Who're you here with?" He asks after a moment, looking at her with a slight blush across his cheekbones.

Caroline slumps a little bit. "My brother... he's... over... somewhere. I dunno. But he doesn't like me."
