Relighting a starry flame

Flamepaw sniffed the air. Somecat was following him. "Whoever you are," the starry orange tom meowed, "come out slowly."

On the edge of two worlds, a murky colored tom appears. Luminous orange eyes held no starlight, and a marbled pelt the color of stormclouds saw nothing of silverpelt beneath the fur. "You're sharp," Rainywhisker meows approvingly. Flicking his tail, he pads nearer to Flamepaw and sniffs at him. "Are you lost?"

Flamepaw shook his head. "Nope. Are you?"

"Not at all," the tom cat appears to sigh when he answers... But that was surely strange- Didn't Dark Forest cats enjoy being where they were? Turning his focus away from the younger cat, he casts an observant look around them. "You would not want to walk too far from where you belong," he suddenly informs Flamepaw. "There are all sorts where I'm from. And you're only walking deeper in."

Flamepaw's now dimmed blue and grey eyes widened as the orange tom realized where he was. "No no no, I'm not-- not in the Place of no Stars, am I?" I was warned not to go here!

Ranywhisker offers a surprisingly gentle, comforting smile. "You've gone on quite the walk. I used to get lost in thought now and again, but I can't say it's ever been this bad." He sounded like he was teasing the apprentice- Though not maliciously. Sitting down, he tips his head to Flamepaw. "So, do you suppose you can find your way back on your own? Or do you need a bit of help."

"I- yeah, I'm gonna need help," Flamepaw admitted reluctantly, keeping his eyes on Rainywhisker. "But you'd better not do anything shady, ya hear me?"

The dark gray cat nods, though the child's words cause him to chuckle as he rises back to his feet. "Alright." Stepping around Flamepaw, he waves his tail in a signal to follow and begins to pad down a path he had learned very quickly. "So," he says after a while. "Where are you from? Not StarClan, I mean. That's obvious."

Rainywhisker's whiskers flick but he doesn't comment. He didn't know what the cat was talking about. He didn't pay too much attention these days. "I'm from ThunderClan. Well, once upon a time, I guess." Orange eyes trace the silhouette of trees. "I wouldn't want to go back either."
