Thank you! she would call back to her sister and smile as she was getting some How from another cat. Her whiskers were dripping water and she was twitching them to get it off as she paddles forward. @gs29513

"Yeah, let's race!" Brightpaw looked a little sad that blizzardsky wasn't impressed, but she wouldn't die over it

Lionstar had seen them. They thought they were doing a good job of remaining hidden in the shadows, spectating from afar and gathering details before taking the plunge into having their presence known, but all that went to waste because Lionstar knew they were here.

Shame burned at their cheeks. They didn't want to go out there, but either way it would disappoint Lionstar: stay here and be disobedient, or go out there, fail at swimming, and look miserable doing it. They were acutely aware of the patches on their fur.

Frozenpaw's head ducked as they drifted toward the group, distanced. They couldn't make eye contact with anyone, and to see their own reflection staring back in the pond caused them to shrink down. Numb, they moved forward to stand in the water.

Frostpaw sniffed and padded over to Pinefawn kind of excited to swim and scared at the same time, she was blind was it going to be dangerous? (Sorry for such the late post @Dipper. )

Lionstar's first impression was one of annoyance when Firepaw got in the water.. and did some display of swimming? If he wanted to be disobedient, he could do it on his own damn time! "All I said was get in the water, Firepaw."

Fur bristling, Lionstar turned his attention to Frozenpaw, Tinypaw, and Ivorypaw. The ones who had gotten into the water and waited for further instruction. Like good apprentices.

"The first thing you need to do.. is relax. The water is here to be a guide for your legs as they move, and you need to trust it to take care of you.

"Now that you're in the water, push yourself off the ground, then kick out with your hindlegs. That will propel you forward - and you can use your front paws to steer you. Stay calm - if you panic, you'll start to thrash around like a fish out of water, and that'll do you no good! And don't worry about floating: as long as you keep collected, the water will carry your body.

"I'm here to keep you from drowning if you have any issues."
Probably. He squinted his eyes at Frozenpaw, noting the patches of fur that were missing. "If I knew you were going to come like a Skinpatch, I would have sent you back to that forest." A hint toward Lionsrange, because he wasn't pleased with how Frozenpaw looked. Like some SAVAGE.

"IF you already know how to swim, you're free to practice right now." That was a look toward Firepaw since he decided to show off only moments ago. "For those who don't know how, let's focus on the baby steps before you start soaring around the pond."

Re: Swimming with the Fishies [open to all apps/warriors!]

Frozenpaw perked up a little, hopeful. They'd done something right? Them? Lionstar thought THEY were doing well compared to someone else? After all, they hadn't started to swim like Firepaw so maybe.. maybe they were a better apprentice than Firepaw and that's what counted. They weren't the apprentice Lionstar was most disappointed in, for a change.

Hesitating, they didn't... understand the relaxation thing. They hadn't been relaxed in moons. They had to be on their toes, completely alert, ready for a hint of danger so they could take cover before something ripped them to shreds.. there was no such thing as a tranquil state, much less when they were standing in water that'd suck them under at any second. One more statistic in the column of "cats who drowned." Already, they could feel a welling of panic because once their paws had left the security of the ground, they were fully in the pond's control. Fear guided them closer to the shoreline again until only their legs were submerged, and they dipped lower into the water as they drew their limbs closer to their body.

But then they were sinking. Sinking. Lower and lower and the water was up to their chin-- their legs shot out again to lift them from the water's grasp, a startled gasp on their tongue. If that was what swimming was like, they didn't care for it. The water crushed their body and threatened their ability to breathe.

They cast a pleading look to Lionstar, afraid. They didn't want to go back to Lionsrange, nor did they wish to be in the pond. However, it had one redeeming factor. "Water covers up the ugly," they tried to protest, frowning. They knew their skin and its fur-patches were a mess, but surely Lionstar understood they HAD to do it, had no other choice, it was the only way to remove the grime.

[ @BILL.; ]

Tinypaw listened to Lion otter as he taught them how to swim. It shouldn't be that hard should it? The small tom relaxed in the water, getting used to the feeling. Once he was used to it he pushed himself and felt himself sink in the water. Before he got to far under he kicked his back legs and went forward.

The small tom felt himself sink again, but without panicking he used his front paws to move around. Now he was getting the hang of it. Tinypaw kicked his back legs and felt himself go forward once again. He used his front paws to go around in a circle. He kicked back his legs the whole time.

"Sorry Lionstar!" Aplolgised Firepaw sincerly. He didn't mean to be disobediant, its just his first instinct to swim when he is in water!

(Sorry, I figured you wouldn’t want to be bombarded with notifs here sorta like Lionsden and the Streamstones)

Ivorypaw carefully began kicking as she began to swim in small circles not straying far from her group but still swimming, she was a bit teetery when she was swimming and a few times accidentally flipped to the side or her head submerged, but each time she came back up.

Blizzardsky glanced at the apprentices,” Alright.“ he waded out to a spot in the water not too deep for the apprentices, but still decent enough to be a challenge,” You’ll race from the edge of shore to me. No cheating, meaning no dragging your opponents down or throwing crabs on them. Everyone line up, on your marks...get set..go!” he called.
